Yeah Pete...Thats a wonderful looking pile at the bottom mate...lol I've still got all that to come and 3 loops to keep tidy
I only have the pile because if the extenders, otherwise it'd be hidden. But I'll hide it all I did indeed, MDPC SATA sleeving and heatshrink
Damn, I've just realised that the round cables I prefer have moulded plugs. Back to the drawing board.
I have moulded plugs on my cables and still managed to push them thru the MDPC Sata sleeves. The only thing I had to do was get a pair of long-nosed pliers to the Sata sleeve to expand it over the plugs.
I just took a scalple and shaved off the corners slightly. The connector easily fits down the SATA sleeving On a side note, WOOOO 10,000 views!!!
These are similar to the ones I'm using http://www.scan.co.uk/products/100c...gb-s-black-round-data-cable-with-secure-latch but was hoping to get a really tight fit. Does the sleeving expand enough to get over the plug but still fit tightly round the cable?
Yeh, you just have to spend a minute working the looseness out of it. I found that if you heat shrinked one end in place then pulled the sleeving down, holding it in place while you heat shrink it the fit is very snug
Thanks for the tip. When my finances have recovered I'll buy in some of the sleeving and sleeve some other cabling as well.
Issues are arising, as the angles for the tubing onto the fittings are all wrong. This is going to take some pondering i feel...
Oh bugger it!!! Good spot there. It's because I had to change to sequence of the loop to make the tubing fit, and thats how I had it before. Wont take long to fix though
Braiding the tubing is looking to be a massive pain. Anyone got any tips? I've tried sliding the compression fitting cover over and using that to hold the braid, but the either gets caught on the the end of the braid in the thread or the turning action causes the braid to come apart. I've also tried heatshrinking the braid onto the end of the tubing, but then means it's too thick for the cap to go over. I don't just want to give up on it though, as the braid looks lovely on the tubing...
I've never tried braiding so this might be a crap idea but... Measure the exact length of braiding required for the tubing (excluding the bit that goes in the compressions). Find something of the same diameter as the tubing to put the end of the braid over while you heatshrink the ends? Could you also turn the heatshrink on the ends inwards into the braid to give additional support?
is it black sleeving? this probably wouldn't look smart enough. but you could always sleeve it up to the compression fitting and then put a cable tie around it, or sleeve it over the compression fitting and then put a cable tie over that
I don't really get what you mean. The sleeve wont fit over the fittings, but I could heatshrink it before the fittings, but it wont look very nice... I emailed Nils for tips, so he may hopefully have some ideas
I've decided that the sleeving isn't working for the compression fittings, so I'm ordsering some XSPC black tubing It's just annoying as I'm so close to finishing...
