as title said i was bored

as you can see from the pics it was not exactly flat.

could not get it to a perfect mirror finish as i had run out of 2500 grit paper but hey ho

managed to drop the temps on my cores from

    core 0 43c - 36c
    core 1 38c - 33c
    core 2 48c - 37c
    core 3 38c - 32c

not bad going for an hours work

Thats impressive really, 5+ degree drop in temps, what cooler are you using?

Nice Work! Not that far off a mirror finish.

Did you cover the back of the CPU to stop any metal filings getting in?

You hit the jackpot with that chip, nice overclock of 5.1g.

I got a poor one I need to pump lots of volts to get it to work stable at 4.5g

Nice, might do this to my 2500k when I change the cooler.

using a h60 at the minute. the chip will hit 5.4 but needs monster volts

What voltage gets you 5.1GHz stable?

1.52v thats with hyperthreading on. the chip overclocks like hell but needs the voltage

it will run at 4.8 but for that extra i need to start throwing voltages at it. had 1.6 through it before and had no problem with heat

You do realise that with 1.5v+ your chip will be dead within a couple of months...

yes it is crazy but i run it at 1.5v for everyday use. only push it when benchmarking. not that 1,5v is not high enough already

I like how from an innocent post about lapping it's managed to end up being a thread advising jizwizard to lower his vcore RIGHT NOW OR THE CPU'S GONNA BLOW UP LIKE A SQUIRREL FILLED WITH HYDROGEN NEAR A FLAMING PAIR OF PANTS!!!!!! lol

True_Gamer pumps 1.5V through his cpu but he has yet to be blown up or advised otherwise.

I'd pump way more voltage through my cpu if I knew I could replace it without much trouble :D

Indeed, nothing to worry about here. I pump 1.5v through my nutsack 24/7 and I'm absolutely fine with it.

Back on topic: Nice job on the CPU :thumb:

Well, his warranty is already gone anyway (because of the lapping) :).

@Sketchee: You can't compare i7 930 and sandy bridge, they are different beasts. 45nm vs 32nm for start.

No, 1.5v will kill a SB chip, 1356 chips 'could' take 1.5v...
