on my searches I found this [IMG] but.. i don't know how loud it would be - any one able to find one that doesn't have a fan on it?

I have that exact card in my Pandora's Box controller, it's nearly silent, as long as you have half-decent ventilation. It's a micro-ATX case with poor airflow, and the fan still almost never gets above 40%.

EDIT: Not quite that card, mine is the PCIe x16 version of the Zotac GT 520 1gb. Great card for ultra low power use, I didn't need much more than a video out that was better than the integrated graphics.

same kind of HSF though? I dunno why they can't make this one passive as their x16 one is! It's only £40 so worth a punt I guess.

I have 4 video cards in my computer a 9600 not sure of the brand 2 BFG 260 GTX and a PNY 260 GTX and they run fine in SLI. At least I have had no issues.

I'm assuming dropping this in on a PCIe1x lane wont muck up gaming on my main screen that's plugged into the 280?

Nope. Not unless your Motherboard does some strange stuff.

I suspect that Low-profile cards like that have fans on because it's assumed that the users will be whacking them in media boxes with absolutely No airflow, so it's simply to stop the card from melting in its own air. So long as you've got some directed airflow at it; I doubt it'd even start to make any noise. Could always be crazy and un-plug the fan, then see what effect that as on the temps. If it's still within limits; could just leave it disconnected.

Off the knees. I'm 6'5". I'd look a bit too hilarious to others hobbling around on crutches (I've already been there once. Kthx, it's not fun.)

I assume you're after the 16X version of that card then? If so; Bam. Took me fifteen seconds. - Balls. It's out of stock. Gimme another thirty...

Ohey, would you look at that? GT520 Passive.

Edit; herpa de derp. You want the 1x version. Derp.

WHATISTHISIDON'TEVEN... Not even Ebay has them! I thought you could find almost anything on Ebay!

THat one frikkin card; the GT218, is designed as a PLug-in for an Ion board, and has been discontinued. Everything else is Quattro cards or FirePro. God dammit. Looks like your gonna have to saw off the back of that socket.

exactly! what the hell? the card has had many posts on tech sites etc so it totally DID exist... and only about a year ago... where did it go?

Are there any other PCIe 1x cards people can find that are under 100£! :(

I'd really not want to spend more than 30 quid on this though :/ may have to just go for the x16 card and cut the back of the pcie slot :/

That'd be a difficult, but reasonably simple task. It would just be getting a blade sharp enough to get through the plastic. Then making sure you don't impale the entire motherboard by accident if you slip.

Looks like it's the only option, sadly. That or one of those Quattro cards for £70 minimum.
