    Well, audio cables are well-known for rusting quickly in a high-humidity saline environment like an office or an audio lab.

    I'll be honest here. My optical cable has gold plated connectors and fancy cable braiding. Not for performance or anything, just because it looks better than the plain blue Cambridge audio ones I was using before.
