I know... how on earth I managed to wash my key fob.... but I did... Came back from a beach trip, left it in my shorts, threw it in the washing machine... I haven't used it. What I did is I put it in a bag of rice last night, will see if it absorbs the moist. Do you have any helpful hints how to make it work? Well, I don't know if it works or not, haven't tried it yet, but I believe it doesn't for now. I have a spare, but need the second one too. It's BMW E90, doesn't have this "comfort access", looks like this:
if it's not working, you could open it up and clean the circuits with meths - just make sure to mop up any residue. That'll drive the water out. Just have to hope that no components are fried.
Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do now - left it in bag of rice first for 24hr. Then will use hair dryer... then will test it....
I think it'll be closer to £200incVAT on one of those newer keys. Diamond shape BMW keys in 2011 were £160incVAT. Try going on BMWland.co.uk - you might find a dealer willing to give you a discount. You'll need to go to the dealer with photo ID and the V5 though to prove you aren't nicking a car...
Dit you take the battery out? Actually take it as far apart as possible, then dry it. Shouldn't be fried, just wet.
A work colleague has just done something similar (also a BMW owner). Whilst giving her the same advice dispensed above, our research revealed that the fob is glued together & recharges wirelessly when slotted into the dash.
If you have a tumble dryer, place it on top while its on a high heat cycle..... fixed the Missus iPhone after a trip down to loo!
