The St James is a good one, must get some more of that one myself. Also like the barbershop one too.

In Tesco getting calpol earlier and curiosity got the better off me. I purchased 5 Tesco value disposable razors for 13p (bic clones). You know what its not bad, not quite as close as my de razor and probably wouldnt do many shaves but my face isn't chewed up and they are very cheap and for holidays they're nice and light.

I suspect the shave was ok mainly due to 18 months of practice with the de plus stuff like good soap and the brush etc, still 2.5p per razor and you don't need to clean it!

Ouch, my beard's hurting just thinking of disposables. If they work for you then two very awesome thumbs up but I'll definitely be sticking with my old Gillette

The lather man ! It is without a doubt the top lather performer I'ver used so far. The smell ain't fancy thought, it's like fresh mowed grass. Don't worry, it wont turn your brush green lolll The soap is plain white.

Sounds good to me! The brush is only a cheap £2 supermarket one, so not too fussed on it going Hulk stylee anyway. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced but decent replacement would be welcome.

If you want menthol, try the Proraso shaving soap. Smells clean but not overpowering, and leaves a pleasant minty tingle on your skin. My current favorite.

I must confess, I've started taking shortcuts on my daily shaving. After picking up a can of Barbasol shaving cream it's become standard for weekday shaves. It works well and cuts out some of the prep and cleanup for busy mornings.

Oh very nice. I'm more of a rhodium plating kinda guy myself but that is a very purdy kind of shiny.

I switched to shaving soap and brush a few years ago, never looked back. Never again will I put that tinned crap on my face again!

Still not tried an old fashioned razor, any recommendations for the discerning gentleman?

Can't go wrong with a good condition vintage Gillette if you can get hold of one. Failing that then Merkur make some very decent new ones

Get in touch with TheBlackSwordsMan (above), he has a thread where he is selling them. I got a lovely ballhead off him that I use all the time and I love it.

Edwin jagger de89 are also very nice. Not too aggressive, well made and very reasonably priced. Just get a sample of blades to try out. I personally prefer astra (the green pack) and persona med prep (very sharp!)

The Chrome is colder and blueish while the Rhodium white

I was wondering if you were still using this badboy :D If someday you want baseplate of the same color of the handle, I have spare parts now.
