To add to the that, my experience up to tier 3 on the German cruiser line is that they have almost laser accurate main guns, good re-fire rates, good ship speed but paper thin Armour that seems to be made of a very flammable material! I like them!
Had a game in the II Soviet destroyer. 3km range on toros? No problem. 3 kills, 12 torp hits and 52 gun hits. Ridiculous.
Quite liking the German cruisers, only got to the Dresden so far but it seems good. Just had an awesome game in my St Louis, best game so far for me I think.
Had an abysmal night last night, I seem to have lost the ability to aim at range somehow which made things painful. That an trying to grind credits late at night with the tirpitz an kept coming up against super leet midway players who triple gang torpedo flight at you with manual releases. Not a good night. Going to try again tonight but sod the premium ships an stick with the Omaha an Cleveland.
The small, fast, destroyers are bags of fun - esp. the Hermelin. I racked up 5 kills in one battle last night, and 3 or 4 were commonplace. Taking out battleships with it is a bit of a challenge (and very rewarding), but it's frikkin lethal against anything else. No idea what I'm doing yet - I charge around picking off ships at the fringe of the battlefield, because the Hermelin can't take a lot of punishment, and upgrade any modules I can. I can't buy some ships despite researching them and having plenty of money. Premium content only, maybe? Seems a bit daft limiting free players to just a half dozen or so ships.
There's certainly more that half a dozen ships to buy. Could it be you're out of space in your Port? Like in WoT you only had x number of spaces in your garage for your tanks, and it cost extra to buy more slots (real money cost).
Odd, you should be able to buy every American and Japanese ship (apart from the 1 premium per country) with normal silver coins. All the German ones are just normal silver IGC, and there's only two gold premium ships in the USSR tree.
Anyone else tried and love the Tier 5 German cruiser the Konigsberg? No Armour but fast on its feet, great range on the guns, maneuverable and torpedo armed with good aiming arcs on those torps. With its more rear facing turrets it's very good at hit and run, especially walloping people who try and chase you! Great ship.
Basically it sounds like you are out of port slots, unfortunatly you will have to dip your hands into your pockets and hand over some cash to Wargaming to get more slots... Or sell some of your old ships you dont play anymore... Or wait as in a future patch Apparently we are getting personal missions, and some of the rewards are Port Slots ( Source - The Mighty Jingles )
Big mission event on http://worldofwarships.eu/en/project_r/ you need to join from the website but there's a day of premium coming in next few hours if you get on with it.
Tier 5 is my personal favorite, it's where both the ships of all classes become capable and the game really opens up in terms of tactics, without everything being insanely dangerous! On the other hand, tier 8 can also be fairly compelling sometimes, this was probably the best game I have ever/will ever have: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1805vaixwc9ziam/Terpitz....png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/hbiwy3d0valikze/Terpitz 2....png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/c4be908nldb38kn/Terpitz 3....png?dl=0
Big changes afoot in the next big update, 0.5.3: http://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/cbt/dev-bulletin-053/ Especially where AA and Captain skills are concerned. As you may imagine, there is lots of bitching on the Warships forums about the AA change, with concern's that the IJN Battleship Line will be hit hard in terms of AA capability and the carriers would become even more useless. I don't know for sure either way and look forward to seeing what impact the changes actually have. IMO however, the issue that's more of a problem is that torpedo planes can drop their payloads at point blank ranges, giving a battleship no hope of dodging most of the torpedoes. When you combine this at high tiers, with the fact that high tier Destroyers are able to spam masses of torpedoes, while remaining totally invisible and you get a fairly miserable environment to operate in. As I just got the Tier 9 IJN BB 'Izumo', I am feeling the pain here quite badly. Not that I wan't WG to nerf Carriers and Destroyers to the point where they become useless but they seem to be focusing on the wrong issue. Either way, if I am reading the developer patch bulletin correctly, close range 'machine gun' style AA will be less effective, but longer ranged or duel purpose AA guns will be better. Presumably meaning you will have the chance to shoot down a few more planes once they enter your AA defense field, but one they are in close, you will have much less killing power. That could balance things out maybe, adding more of a risk/reward layer to the use of planes. The re-balance and additions to the captain skills is also interesting, and perhaps overdue, as the tier 5 skills were a bit poor, especially moving last stand to talent level 2, a very welcome change! Also: 'Survivability Expert (talent level 4) increases the number of hit points of your ship by a fixed value, multiplied by the Tier of the ship' ^^ Om Nom Nom for high tier Battleships!
Reminds me I need to re download this, thatll be most of a day! I dont think carriers need a nerf, what they need is a minimum distance that the torps can be armed from. In reality yes the were live as soon as they were dropped. But in a game is just breaks it. Destroyers wise they need to open up the sonar perk to be more versatile its currently really under used because frankly its range is crap.
I can't remember if it's 50m or 150m, but air dropped torps already have a minimum arming distance in game. But if you're in a Cruiser or Battleship and you're not already turning/using defensive fire/changing speed before they launch it's mostly academic.
It's also Academic because of you have a 15-20 second rudder shift time, and a turning radius of 750-1000 meters, you stand little to no chance of avoiding torpedoes that are dropped less than 1km from you (let alone 50-150 M) and travel at roughly twice your max speed! Even if you are in a turn, competent carrier players will use their bombers (travelling at roughly 150 knots for comparison) and just redirect them into your turn, especially if they have 2 squads and send them from two sides - it can be insta death for a BB. I think WG have a challenge here, to try and make sure the Basic Rock Paper Scissors works correctly without removing the variety and skill from the playing.
which is why you shouldnt ever go anywhere in a BB on your own, the system in place rewards teamwork, BB's ( should ) need a cruisers escort both for the increased guns pointing into the sky, and for the defensive fire cooldown ( not to mention the increased protection VS DD's ) although 'teamwork' in a multiplayer games is somewhat subjective term...
