    You lose a leg, mate?

In other news, my eldest was out at his first new years party last night. Had a skinful, rolled in at 3am, wasn't sick, and got up an hour ago without a hangover and made a pot of tea.

Ditto with my eldest who rolled in near 4 am apparently, other than we were all up at 6.15 to drive to Heathrow for 9am.
My wife is now on the plane (as of 11.50am) to Hanoi via Bankok, for her 6 week trip to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia...

This could be in the 'other' "What's...." forum I guess!

Cooking, cleaning, after school transport and work - it'll be fine

And while I'm at it, a Happy New Year to you all - welcome to 2018 , bugger, 2019

Late shift New Year's Eve, late shift New Year's day, last day of a 7 day roster and still can't celebrate as have to pick the good woman up from work the following day.
Can't drink that day either, have 7 night shifts the following day to do then :(

I'll not be celebrating the New Year until 21st Jan, next time I have off at work.

    Happy New Year (grrrrr)

"Quick" blast on the motorbike today to blow away the cobwebs:

(Not my exact start/end points, but you don't need to know exactly where I live :thumb: )

I say "quick", because I ended up being out for three hours. Stopped in Abergavenny at the Oasis Cafe and ended up getting chatting to a couple of other bikers.

Edit: First time I've been up the A470 that way. Some absolutely stunning views up there.

You might want to try the stretch from Merthyr through Talybont-on-Usk next time https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/5...025be9495cac5!2m2!1d-3.290984!2d51.896431!3e0 it's another beautiful run especially on a bike I'd imagine!

I realised my financial planning spreadsheet was incorrect. I had a load of excel columns hidden that worked out the principal and interest on loan, car and credit card repayments within my document and summed up the rows with these columns still hidden.

Turns out my figures were therefore inflated by about 20% because it was adding in all this other serendipitous information. While that debt wasn't there in the first place realising the number is substantially smaller than first believed is strangely elating.

I also got paid and it seems to have stretched further than first anticipated.

I'm a big fan of what's in the top left corner...

    BWAHAHAHA!!! *ahem*

So, this little extractor fan, on its lowest setting, gets the ambient temp of the comms cupboard to 18c... cooler than the neighbouring utility room it intakes from, presumably on account of taking the air in at floor level. Previous closed-door temps were 55c when the AV gear was on (and since then I've always opened the door before watching anything), and 38c when not.

It's noisier than I would like (advertised as "silent"... maybe when it's installed 10ft up in the loft and ducted from a bathroom), so once I finish the interior wall to the comms cupboard (with acoustic plasterboard and tecsound), I'll box it in as well. The lower ambient lets me swap out fans in some of the kit as well... the 10g switch and the 1U server are currently the main offenders.

True dat... I'm enthused by the fact that it's now the coolest room in the house though. The ground floor of my house always manages to be quite cool in summer, but there's always the mobile air-con unit to save the day.

    Unifi, Synology, Supermicro goodness

Slightly jealous, but only because of that fan.
Had to move ALL my equipment into the loft, except for a single 24 port US-24 covering downstairs.
Can't wait until I get my workshop/man lab/office sorted in the back garden, it can all go in there then :)
