This Top Gear news makes me sad Seen every episode besides the new season.

I enjoy the dynamics between the three of them, but I honestly enjoy Clarkson the least. I've watched Hammond and May's separate solo TV ventures (that slow-motion thingy and the giant toy program) and they were fantastic. I'd actually prefer it if they went their separate ways, because Hammond and May are both very good at what they do. Clarkson is mostly comic relief, and not the best at it anyway. I think James May has a better sense of humour, in his reserved, deadpan way.

And as per above, it really wouldn't surprise me if he got a leg into politics with UKIP or someone similar, they'd love him as a poster child grandad.

He's presenting a show on the BBC in a couple of weeks, the Top Gear Live show is still going ahead albeit without any TG/BBC branding, and he may yet turn up on another channel with a rival show to Top Gear with his two mates.

I don't see how his career is over.

James May said it best: "He's a knob, but I quite like him".

 

He's also worth tens of millions so could happily retire if he wanted to, so.... yeah.

 

Money gets you out of anything.

 

Not really ( certainly didn't in this case ), and that wasn't the point. Money can solve many issues and make others simply go away, and it opens lots of doors, but it isn't a free-pass to get out of trouble when it's so public...

 

Just hazarding a guess, but could JC now be Freelance, Therefore, any issues that may arise, he can be instantly shown the door. Easier to keep him on TV, and easier to boot him off again sort of thing?

Technically I think he was freelance the whole time as they're all contractors. But yes I think what you're saying in bang on. Just being hired on an ad hoc basis.

 

He was contracted by the BBC to do Top Gear, and that contract's now ended. He's free to appear on HIGNFY or any other show in exactly the same way that anyone else is - he'll get paid for his appearance. In that sense he is freelance, as are most of the people that appear on TV on an ad hoc basis . His contract was "allowed to expire" but he's not banned from the BBC or anything like that, he just doesn't have a contract with them beyond whatever ad hoc work he takes on.

Don't think Clarkson ever claimed to be anything else, although, playing the fool and devil's advocate has made him a lot of money and a very sale-able personality, as a biker of many years I've taken the usual Clarkson abuse but so have many others, no big deal, it's just TV

 

He seems to be dealing with the sacking rather well:
