    That sounds pointless...

I could give you a line with 40 GBps bandwidth....but where would it go to ?

there aren't really any PoP's around the country that could handle it.....

you'd hit a much slower bottleneck somewhere along the line.

ADSL 4Mbit/768kb. Quadrupled download speed (for the same price) since they first started DSL in this country. Me likes.

10 mb here over JANET its limited by the hardware tho, these halls are linked to uni via laser, cabled halls get ~15-20 mbs. Love the sub 5 pings on some online servers tho, and the 1.2mb (bytes) a sec dl we can get....

I was on 512/256 adsl until today when my (supposedly) seamless, zero downtime, change of ISPs was supposed to go on. The original ISP was cancelled and surprise, surprise, the new ISP hasnt even processed my order! So im stuck on god damn dial up until i can get things sorted....:(

I had a 512 Kb ADSL connection for a while, for surfing/gaming, but I switched to 1 Mb when BT started their trial of the 1 Mb service.
    I can't say I noticed tooo much difference moving from 512Kb to 1 Mb, but I wouldn't move back ... :D

i think that's due to a large, mainly male, sexually frustrated load of students in halls mass-downloading pr0n dvds of the internet (that's on top of the standard uni kazaa thievery). I'm also an IC student; in my hall year (in Beit, if anyone cares) the avaiable speed dropped quickly as more and more ppl got online. there were times where a 56k connection would have been marginally quicker... The answer was to work in the department.

Here in Germany they sensibly limit the bandwidth per user, which seems to do the trick of stopping bottlenecks. unfortunately the firewall here stops any direct connections.. (no trillian, no msn speech, no d/l programs (legal or otherwise) :sigh: still darn fast tho - several MB/sec...

Also the fact that most residences are treated a low priority traffic by the firewall and are not allocated any decent amount of bandwidth.

T1, at work. Nice, but not that fast, since there's a ton of people on it and they're using part of it for phone lines or some such worthless nonsense. :wallbash:
