    Update #02 [HD-cages 02]

Hello everyone. I had some spare time last weekend, so I got some small things done.

I'm continuing with the HD-cage housing and the internals of the front.

A few pics of the right-hand support of the case:

I need to get the CD as far to the right as possible so the CD-Tray won't be interferring with the cross that will be in front of the front ^^
Anyways, that's the reason why I'm using the 5.25" unit to hold it in place.

This is supposed to be the two horizontal supports that the HD-cage will be mounted to using rubber grommets.

It may seem like I was slacking, but the measuring and thinking are just as important as the crafting of the parts.

Chieftec, most models have them, think the BX series does. these are "Chieftec MESH LCX Miditower Chess/window"

And yeah, they're the cheapest Chieftec you can find I think. For a reason. I payed 700SEK each for them, that's about 50$ or something...

Thanks man. I start of by using a jigsaw, then I go to filing the edges, and brushing the plate, and I finish of with a piece of sandpaper, the thick model on fabric.

Sorry man, I'm trying to keep the weight down, and IMO, watercooling is more hassle than it's worth. (Got my old rig WCd, www.edvuld.com ) It looks cool though.

    Update #03 [HD-cages completed] [2006-12-24]

Yesterdays work included finishing the HD-cages and some more of the internal front parts.

The HD-cage will be mounted to these 2 horizontal pieces of aluminium, using a double set of rubber grommets.

A small support to even out the weight of the HDs:

Final result with the cage mounted:

The next thing I started with is the joints I'll be using to fasten the red acrylic to the aluminium chassis. One thing I learned from my last mod is that if you drill and thread a hole in thin aluminium, it'll soon be unusable if you keep screwing and unscrewing, as you will with the left side for example.

To remedy this I decided to go with hevay duty 21x21mm iron, that I'll put in the corners and thread from 3 different directions. That should be durable enough eh?

The front acrylic is in front of everything else, and thus it has nothing to rest on when you try to screw it back after mounting a HDD.
I'm ging to solve this by putting 10mm round iron through the corner iron. I'll then drill 10mm holes into the front, and the aluminium in the front will cover these big holes, and will only have 4mm holes so you can insert the screw. Check the pics to see what I mean more throughfully:

These holes will be M4 threaded

    Testing out the mounting positions:

I'm not sure this will work, but I hope so. If it works, it'll be like small "hooks" that you can hang the front on before screwing it tight.

    Merry X-mas!

if this goes like the NOD temple it will be amazing, and by the looks of those pictures it will. really nice with shiny alu :D and your craftmanship is so amazing, wish i could do that ;)

altough i have to point out that 700 SEK is pretty exactly 100 bucks :)
