I'm really sorry to hear that, you should have downloaded that alarm thing that uses the motion sensor to dectect when the system is being moved, and a really loud alarm sounds. it would shock the burglar, Ok, not quite as much as setting off fireworks and paintballing your dad at midnight in his bedroom while he's asleep (Jackass), and then doing that five hours later in his van, but it still would work well.

Even though that was from CKY, and they just put it in jackass...

    That sucks hardcore.

Surely it'd be covered by your office's insurance?

I think I'll stop leaving my powerbook at work from now on..

Erm don't know what to say. Not having 1500 quids worth of kit insured for wherever you take it is odd to say the least.

If its not insured that is.

meh, if you can afford to replace whatever you have at any given moment, then don't insure it. otherwise, do.

Madness, not insuring a easily nickable highly desirable item that you take with you all over the place.

hey guys, sorry for the late reply. have been moving around and dont have easy access to the net.

I was working at a summer school as a teacher. I don't normally take my MBP around with me but that day had to use it for class. There were 2 members of staff ( 2 girls) in the office when I left it there. I had to go out for 5 minutes to the toilet. When I came back the girls were standing in front of the window and one of them was saying she was sure she had locked the window. I walked to the table and my bag with my lappy in it was gone. Basically what had happened was a really dodgy guy came in asking for someone and they BOTH left the room to alert security. someone must have hidden behind the door and when they left, came in and jumped out the window!
WTF!!! have always been careful with my stuff so have never insured it. I know its still a risk. work insurance doesnt cover it

anyway, now looking at getting a Macbook as a replacement. any tips?

spend the $25 and 15 minutes to get a lock for it and drill a hole through a solid object to attach it to?

there's little difference between them other than color etc...

get the best processor you can get, the most memory, and the biggest hard drive you can afford...

    or get the mbp

Two staff members BOTH went out to alert security. Does it take that many people? Are their no phones!? IS THERE NO COMMON SENSE!?!?

Well, I hope you ripped them a new one. It's too bad you lost such a fine machine, and the cost. I hope you at least have some backups of the data, so not ALL is lost. Let's hope the thief is an idiot and tries to register it or something.

As for a replacement, you don't exactly have much of a choice, do you? Either MB or MBP.

If you have home insurance then you may well find that your laptop is covered for theft on that, no matter where it is, i know mine is as i checked before i bought it. And thats my parents home insurance who live 50 miles from me!

home insurance can also cover against damaging hardware (by accident) and all sorts, its very useful!
