Scratch Build – In Progress Ferrari Enzo tribute - 20/12/2007 - *ON HOLD*

I'd go for the GT40 ofcourse! Thats the most beautiful car ever! (Yes, even cooler then the Enzo)

 

the gt40 is a nice car, but the enzo is sexier, not to mention F40, F430, F50, testarossa.... mmmmm i like ferrari

i think the gt40 stripes will be great however! they are racing stripes, so they will match the theme of a ferrrari pc. the other thing is that two white stripes over the top and 2 along the base of each side will make the case seem longer & thinner. the same way that vertical stripes make people look skinnier & taller, and horizontal ones make people seem shorter & wider. racing stripes look cool aswell, go for it!

 

The Ferrari Enzo FXX has a white stripe....

Meanwhile here is another update for you. I decided to cut the case open today and although the work is not done yet i still made some progress i can share. My original plan was to use a dremel diamond cutting disk but we didn't have any in stock at work so i began working my way with an exacto saw. I opened up the side air intake areas and i still have to cut the "doors" which i couldn't do today since the saw simply couldn't reach there. So instead i decided to open the rear mobo tray cover.

I cut off some of the foam to glue the side supports that will preserve the cover shape


And after gluing it in place


Next stage was to dissolve the foam using thinner


And the cleaned up cover




Test fit back in place




Hopefully tomorrow we will get the diamond disks so i can complete the cutting phase. In case we don't, I will probably get some more bodywork done and get the rear cover finished (still have some reinforcements to do

Sorry only had about 1 hour of work done today, got a busy evening ahead of me. I got the Diamond cutting disk i wanted and so I could finish cutting the case open. Here are some pics (this time higher quality as i got my hands on our camera today 8) )



















The next phase will be probably the custom made hinges for the top and more reinforcing and bodywork

I have to admit when I seen the first sketchups I was a bit dubious but as soon as those curvy vents came along I knew you were onto a winner! My apologies for the initial lack of faith

Being a kind soul who loves Ferraris I thought I’d give my 2 cents on the go-faster stripes:

There is a motif Ferrari use on their challenge stradale cars, a white stripe with a simple Italian flag style pinstripe, you may like it, you may not but I thought I’d throw it into the pot anyway!

Vo0Ds: actually another members suggested the exact same theme over at TMN forums, but i think if i eventually decide to go with the racing stripes, i will go for the more classic look of 2 wide white stripes on top of the case. Still thanks for the suggestion

Some more progress for today. Started carving the foam out of the side intakes. This will be done in several stages.

First i will be taking out about 3-4cm of the material and reinforce the walls of the intakes with some more carbon. Then once the structure is solid enough i will carve out the remaining foam and cut the intakes open.

I also carved out about 1cm of foam from the bottom and will be putting a sheet of rohacell to give additional support to the structure. When i'm nearly done the whole bottom will be covered with another single piece of fiberglass to seal it.

I also worked on the rear panel cover, reinforcing it with some rohacell strips and some carbon layers

I decided to go with the standard hinges for the top section after all. Some adjustments will be made to reinforce this area, so it can hold the upper section weight

I have another update for you guys. Now that the case is open, I can finally begin working on the interiors. Here is the progress for today:

Making the sliding rails for the mobo tray






Making the PSU mounts. I used 2 pieces of glass epoxy. After cutting it with a diamond cutting wheel and some drilling and final sanding this is what came out




I also trimmed and sanded down the carbon reinforcements on the side air intakes







The next step was to begin making the mobo cover. I used some sheets of MDF to make the basic square shape and then sanded it down and rounded the corners to allow the fiberglass take it all in one piece. Finally with the basic shape ready i covered it with a teflon tape )faster and better way than using mold release wax, as nothing sticks to teflon
