i3 only because I'm an Intel man! I think it would not be the best choice due upgrades so for you I vote the build 2 to save money and I think unlock the triple core to four but Ihave no idea if it'll work with that CPU and mobo!

I'd get the first one, but drop down to a 955 instead of a 965 imho as they're pretty much the exact same thing.

If you go for the third one you will want a better cooler...

I think he means the i5...

I actually agree with this. The 955 is great bang for buck.

Very true, if you do go for the i5, get a decent cooler. The Gelid Tranquilo is a great performer and very quiet for only around £25. Mine just arrived today, haven't fitted it yet.

As for my choice, I say go for build 1 with a 955, simply because it is cheaper and will more than meet your requirements.

Build 3 has a problem - you most definitely do NOT want the H55 version of that motherboard, you want the P55. The H55 is intended for Clarkdale i3/i5 processors (dual cores w/ on-chip GPU) whereas P55 is intended for Lynndale i5/i7 processors (quad cores w/o on-chip GPU).

Alternatively, it could be that you chose the i5 750 by mistake, and actually wanted an i3 530 (which would bring the price under £500) in which case stick with the H55. But something needs to change, either way.

Man you could have 6 cores for the price of that i5 :)

You didn't think about that did you.

The 6 core AMD 1055t is sub 150 GBP now.

I'd take the 1055, because its more future proofed. The i-series is EOL now and a new socket is being released from Intel soon.

AMD will stick with the same socket for the new Bulldozer chips, although it will be called FM1, it will be backwards compatable with AM3.

Also don't get 1333MHz ram get 1600MHz instead, they are nearly the same price anyway.

I'd personally say build 2 but i would also say that with the cash you've already saved with those choices get a higher spec mobo (preferably at least a 770 chipset).

The only core unlocking boards (or so i've read) are minimum 770G chipset and 710SB and i would double and triple check which chips actually unlock. I think Rana's unlock to a Propus from what i've been reading Here and via some searching. In those other threads it seems to suggest that the Phenom II X2 555 is one of the best core unlocking chips to go with since it has the tasty L3 cache which the X3 440's do not.

Scan has them Here although it seems they are awaiting stock but they're fairly quick with that in my experience. They have it listed as £70.48 inc. VAT so it would only put your build up by £10.04, which still keeps it easily the cheapest of the 3.

Sorry to carry on the trend of making your chioces difficult but i'd hate to see you spend all the money and not end up with the best value.

Go for my suggestion and use the money saved to take your wife out for dinner for buying you a (hopefully) great monitor.

You know it makes sense and it will pay off big time :naughty::naughty::naughty:.

If it's a crap monitor then McDonalds it is :D.

Build 1 if you're set on one of the 3, and I voted as much, but I'd go for the i3 over the X4 any day if it was mine.

I chose the first option, but if you do not plan to overclock the system, maybe Phenom X4 II 955 would be more suitable... But the third option is quite good as well... :thumb:
