Peak times are usually slower. You could check out your modem stats and see if anything there is amiss (http://192.168.100.1/). Virgin will come out to sort problems. Could be you need to be moved further up in the street cabinet or if you are at the limit of distance you may need a better quality cable to your house.

Go here for help. There are 2nd line support people there + other knowledgeable sorts.

5MB leased line at work - boosts to a max 12MB when bandwidth available - not too shabby for time of day and 11 concurrent VPN's running as I type.

We are right on the 5km distance from the exchanges in our area so this is transmitted wirelessly down to our estate from a transmitter 3 miles away.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgh! What is with BT????

Ok, for the last month I've been getting 2.416 Mb/s download speed on a CONFIGURED 2500kbs. Nice and steady, no issues.

I'm paying for up to 8mbs. So while not stella it's been better than the 1.416M/bs max we've been getting for the last year.

Now, today, I've been reconfigured down to 2000kbs and I'm getting a reported 1.944Mb/s.

WTF! I mean really... do I have' **** all over me' tattooed on my forehead?

To say I'm f**Ked of with BT doesn't even begin to express the 'dissatisfaction' I'm feeling right now.

Our safe and stable configured speed has been dropped by BT from 2.5 to 2.0 to 1.5Mbs in the space of a week. We're paying for upto 8Mbs! Those tossers at BT have, for just 4 weeks, delivered the sort of service we've paid them for over the last 12 months... and now they've taken it away....ffs!

Long story short: we are, collectively being bent over by BT, our wallets being picked with a smile and then introduced to what is a somewhat distinctive sensation of something long, wide and hard being introduced to our rear passage ...only with out lubrication!

    Thank you BT!

    Virgin Media, UK:

Advertised at 10 Mbit so pretty good. Upload speed sucks although many ISP's upload speeds in the UK seem to be poor?
