Caught a GT-R on my walk home the other night. No tripod, so I had to get creative with the exposures.

Middle shot is cool... but why is focus not on the front of the car? The front is soft, yet the middle of the car, steering wheel, mirrors etc are pin sharp.

Same deal with the black and white one.. front of car soft... interior sharp(ish). Stop using auto focus on static objects! .. or at least select your AF points more carefully. I don't get the B&W one though... Why B&W?


First one is my favourite . Great sense of place... the environment has an opulent feel (if this was London, that kind of mews house in city centre would cost a fortune... probably would in LA too) which lends an exclusive air to the car. It all just works. Pity he didn't park 18 inches further back.... the tree thing.... bugs me a little.. but not your fault. The cycle rack/stand thing echoes the wheels on the GT-R too. Yeah... this one's my favourite.. it's cleverer than the rest. Middle one is too car Magazine for my liking.

 

It was manual focused. I didn't have my tripod, I crouched on the pavement, rested the camera on my bag (because it's boxy and stable) and manual focused it. It was too dark for AF. It was also very cold, and I think I may just have been hasty because my hands were freezing and I looked a little strange down on the pavement at midnight in front of a pretty car

Also manual focus, also cold, also hasty. Mea culpa.

There were lots of different colored lights in the shot (green, orange, red and yellow left of the car, and bright white to the right) so in color the whole shot looked like a messy riot of ugly colors and colored reflections. When I flicked it to B&W, it looked a lot better and since the car itself was a sort of pearl grey, I thought it looked nice in B&W since I didn't lose much color off the car to begin with. It just looked nicer to me.

Thank you. Strangely enough, you're the first person to like this shot. Most people liked the B&W and a lot of others liked the "car magazine" one.

 

jep, middle one's great- good composition, interesting and nice to watch.
first one has too busy background so the car gets lost in it
third one looks like a snapshot... nothing iteresting going on in there, just a pretty car

Using works' bridge camera. Left the Pentax at home as we weren't expecting anything other than sun and clear skies. Forgot how much I dislike P&S cameras, but a picture is a picture.

 

Took this yesterday on top of a very cold Cleeve hill looking across the Severn valley to the Malvern hills just before sunset. Its not a great pic I know as it was taken with my phone.

Pentax K-x, Sigma EX DC Macro 18-50

Work closed early again, which is actually a PITA, but it did mean I could get out with the camera for the first time in a while.

 

Very nice. Lovely clear sky you had today, must have been bitter.

 

I went up there once after work (took the DSLR in just in case,) then again after I got home. Mum wanted to see the snow as well and take her camera along, so turned around and went back with her. First time the air was still and it was actually fairly warm, but the wind picked up since and it's now really chilly outside.

On one hand it's great to have the snow and the free time to photograph it, on the other, I need to get a lens delivered to work and it's difficult to get it there if the place keeps closing. :/

 

Good stuff Silver, what lens have you ordered?

 

Another Sigma EX DC Macro 18-50 for mum's Christmas present. She's currently using a kit lens, so it'll be a step up for her.

A few shots late the other night as my dad was getting his fishing things ready for the next day. D700 & 50mm 1.8D at f1.8, Iso 3200.







Can't decide which I prefer. I like the b/w because of the texture in the olives, but I also like the colour;

Preparing the olives that we brought back from our village. You have to let them sit in water and change the water many times over a period of a time. You add salt to the water too. Can't remember the exact process.

Talk about creamy bokeh. That last shot's beautiful.
