My how the world has changed in just 35(ish) years. In the late 70's/early 80's, 10MB of hard drive space cost you $3400. In 2012, hard drives are priced per Gigabyte, and 10MB of storage space on one of the worlds fastest commercially available mechanical disks equivalently costs about £0.0026.

Price based on a 600GB Western Digital Velociraptor costing approximately £160.

$3400 USD is today worth approximately £2140 GBP
$3400 USD in 1980 was worth approximately £1463 GBP

    So I did :duh:

Fix'd it now. Blame my sleepiness and bad habit of not checking my calculations, not my stupidity! :hehe:

and based on a 3TB drive [this one in this case], 10MB would cost £0.0004932

based on 3000GB capacity, purchase price of £147.96

Well, not really a markup. Times have changed a lot. The cost of production has come down that much and the technology used to manufacture digital storage has advanced to such a degree that drives don't cost anywhere near what they used to. You don't even have to go back as far as this (although it's funny and amazing to look back on). In 1999, our home PC was upgraded from a 3GB to a 6GB hard drive for free. That was a massive upgrade at the time, and one that would have cost hundreds of pounds if we'd had to pay for it. Hundreds of pounds... for a 6GB hard drive! :)

10MB HD - And money was really equal, in worth, to what amount in today's currency? This makes the actual price paid even worse when compared to the weakened state of the current US dollar.

if it was early 80s [I assumed 1982 for the calculations] then after 30 years of inflation it'd be in the region of $8100
