Lots of the game IS working out where to go. That's part of the beauty. Games now are so obvious, so easy, go here...do this..kill that. Engage your brain and enjoy!
I cant believe what a good job they have done with Black Mesa! It's not often I can say my expectations were met/surpassed! Going to be gutted when i get to the end and have to wait another 7 years for Zen!
I remember playing HL1 for all of 10 mins when it came out, me being all of 8 at the time.. So this should be very interesting and new for me.
Do you have to have the original Half-Life to play this? And will it have a portal gun by any chance?
No. Only Source SDK 2007. No portal gun, no gravity gun, this is Half Life 1 remake, not Portal & Half Life 2 mashup.
Not to mention that Black Mesa and Aperture science are completely different organizations and facilities. Though, in the original HL1, you pass the Aperture science facility on the train ride at the start of the game
I must admit I'm a little sad there isn't a Mac port for it yet... anyone tried and seen how well it works in a windows VM?
[/IMG] WOOOOOOSH. Love it so far. Love it love it love it love it. Only slight issue was with the fan bit, where it kept crashing. Had to reload an earlier save, smash all the crates in the upper room and it worked fine.
Just finished. Anyone else notice the big glitch in aux tank reactor access, where grenades and rockets just go straight through enemys/walls/etc? (Edit: also if you ran out of ammo on the rocketlauncher, you can't switch to a different weapon in that area... wtf?) Other than that, the only things that really pissed me off were: 1) that trip laser area where the whole building exploded. I actually had to go back to an old 'hl1 done quick' video to find out where I was actually suppose to go. It's obivous in the original game, but you don't even notice it in blackmesa. 2) Some areas, even on normal (nevermind hard) would just be impossible to complete without dying at least 2-3 times, the most frustrating of which are the ones where you're 10x better off to just run straight through to the objective without firing a single shot (I like to be through, where ammo availablity permits ) I'm also secretly glad that xen isn't ready yet (now I'll have time to devote to torchlight II )
I finished this today as well. Loved it for the most part - it's a great rework of the original. Stand-out moments include the rocket launch (pictured above) and the cliff edge section on Surface Tension. Spoiler The fight with the helicopter was a thrill, but the best part was where two jets make a bombing run, and you see the blast wave coming towards you... BOOM! Also thought the new interface to call in artillery at the end of Surface Tension was well done: in the original, it was infuriatingly fiddly. This time it was just point and click
I really wish I had thought of this before I finished the game (and had to put up with 100% fan speed for 10+ hours ). You would think that after the starcraft II loading screen fried a few cards that this would come standard... C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS\cfg\ config.cfg append fps_max "60" (or higher, if you think you have superhuman sight)
It's one thing to get frustrated by a puzzle and give up, but it's another thing entirely to get so pissed off at crutch jump you can't even focus on the puzzle.
Don't know about VM but apparently works after a fiddly install with WINE http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/zwtkj/i_installed_black_mesa_source_on_mac_xpost_from/
oh my god you lot ****ing suck, this isnt directed at you exclusively playboy but all the wahh wahh about crouch jumping is doing my head in, it was common maneuver in the golden days of the fps, ****ing man up and deal with it. sheesh
