Yes, pretty much. I just love the crazy ideas, ridiculous constructions used in the process, and the result. But you have to admit that you have to be a little bit mad to work like that and come up with these ideas, no?

 

Madness or awesome improvisation, I think it's the latter which requires at least a smidge of madness.

 

Needs more cardboard and sticky tape.

Have a random bit of household archaeology:

OK, last time I didn't take any pics, so this session is mostly (entirely) the stuff I forgot to photograph.

-Operation pincushion. I have a few extra holes after this adjustment.

-I've added a mere 1/4 of an inch, but it seems like a mile. If this gap was in my Aunt's hose, She would put a new couch in there.

-Here's the topside. I have soooooo many screws to trim. -Maybe I'll just sharpen them and go punk theme.

-Earlier I got a surprise package from Bill. Inside was a Darkside UV LED strip. I have no clue where I'll put it yet. I may need to cut it up too.

-And here's that new metal cracker I added to the Gigabyte board. The insulation layer was supplied by a plastic school binder, again.

Pretty tricky stuff

 

The day is shot. I might as well update. The sun has to quit going away at 5:30.


-I'm working on one of those stainless steel reservoirs again. The raw material here is 3/4" clear with a 1/8" layer of purple.

-I coded these with a double pass too. I should have done the first cut single pass, since it only needs it for the bottom 1/8".

-One hour in and I still haven't hit pallet. Keep in mind I'm pumping away at the air sprayer all this time. I closed the windows so the neighbors wouldn't think I was some kind of viagra addict.

-Finally!

-Half way? OW.

-ZZZZZZZZZZZ- Huh?what?

-Anyway, Time skip. Here we are some time a week later. Life-stuff is piling up here again. Is that a car fender?

-We'll skip a few process pics this time. Do you notice I have material for 3 caps? I'm planning something tricky for the ports. I thought a backup was a good idea. I hope I get time to remove the oily fluffball I made soon.

-Hmmm, Copper pipe fits perfectly. -A bit TOO perfectly. The lacquered part doesn't fit. There's also a suspicious O-ring.
The black disk has a tiny hole in the middle, and is an exact fit for the holes. I'll use it to center the mill on the holes later.

It snowed in your workshop.

 

Oily snow. Texas City must have blown up again. The 3/8" bit wastes a lot of material, but it's the only thing I have that can cut more than an inch deep.

 

OK, I have some pics, but the shinier things get, the harder it is to photograph them.

-Somehow, McMaster listed 5/8" and 5/16" ID O-rings together, and I managed to click the wrong one as usual. They don't have the $5-ish shipping anymore, so I ended up spending about $25 on a $3 bag of rings. :V I'm good at that.


-I cut a marble holder for the power switch assembly. It jumped off the mounting for the cutting finale. It only scared a little pee out of me.

-Digital cameras suck for purple. Can you tell the top is purple and the O-ring holder is blue?

-I cut the tube down to 9" and prepped it for milling.

-Back to the caps... This little puck I made fits inside the port holes. I line the mill up with the hole in the middle and set the mill to zero. I have electrical tape sealing the bottom of the holes and I made a little dam with it around the edge.

-Next, I used a dremel bit to cut out the O-ring grooves. I had to set the clearance plane and cut depth to zero, or it would have tried to pull the bit out of the cut at the end of the process.
I found a good use for those useless steel toilet bolts that I keep getting in kits too.

-Groovy, but not groovy enough. When the O-rings came I found they were too thick to fit. I had to throw the part back in the machine and widen them.

-Wandering back to the tube: Here I've lined up the cut.

-But then there was screaming and smoke... and I even grabbed a fire extinguisher instead of aborting... and that stupid smoke detector overhead just watched and said nothing...
Anyway, I read the wrong list of settings. I had the bit spinning WAY to fast and burned it up. I scratched that set of numbers out, cut them out of the page, burned them, and buried the ashes. I plan to urinate on their grave when the weather improves.

-I should bury this bit too. They aren't supposed to be round.

-Bouncing over to the caps again: I drilled the set screw holes.

-Add 4-40 socket cap screws...

-and the cap is secure.

-Have a random pic of? That was the end of a power cord. I stripped the rubber off to confirm the color-coded wires matched up before I make a custom cable. -You never know...

-Bounce. Here I've drilled screw holes for the power switch housing. Can you tell this stuff was done randomly yet?

-Here we have a Tribal Overkill drill press ghetto lathe adapter with a 2 1/2" disc...

-A modified skateboard wheel on a stick...

-Mix and BLAMMO. Tube sanding attachment. I ground this down for a while with 150 grit, then finished with a 3M scratch pad.
...I wish I had marked the side I marked "top" in the earlier pics.

-Done. May there be better pics when the sun returns. The cap O-rings go in like trying to stuff an angry eel in a too small box.
...Why does that sound familiar?

-I had to chop the bottom lip of the tank of to test fit the new assembly. The PSU bracket needs the corners filed down, and the too long screws are hitting. Even the motherboard spacers I cut are too fat.

@Mad Mike- Go for it. I have a few case designs that use these res's for frame parts. The stuff is seriously strong. I can't claim the design is anything new anyway. I'm pretty sure TribalOverkill did it first, but in plexi.
@Nexxo- You should have 'sssssssweet' in that.
@Noob- People give me junk, I use it. -Oh, right. You've seen one of these up close. If you ever see Bill try to paint the Mod Men res I made, please stop him.
@Stallion -You must be new. My sanity has been questioned for years.

 

I forgot I had an update to dump. -Milled about in the logs, yelled at Nexxo...


-So... I needed a perfect circle, and using a router was the best option. DutchCedar made this seem easy, but it was really dicey. It was really easy to gum the blade. I found myself rapidly dragging the router back and forth like an angry nanny working up for a long prison sentence. For clamping I glued the aluminum to a board, and screwed that to a plank.

-I knew it would be rough, so I cut larger than I needed. I then put a mill bit in the drill press and proceeded to DJ the edge down 1/16". -Wikiwikiwiki X 2 days = forearm pain.

-I drilled some holes to mount with.

-Now I have a good idea where the tank warps, and where the tank can be cut to. I have to make a marking tool for that.

-Power switch in case this decides to start yelling "EXTERMINATE!"

-Here you can see the mounting holes and a feeble attempt to make a wire port. I've also drawn up where the fan clutch fits-or doesn't fit. It's looking like I will have to chop a section of it to get it flush.

-I applied some epoxy to hold the clear marble track in place, and put it out in the cold so most of it would slump into the cracks.

-The switches seat in a 1/8" bit of plexi that screws on. Here I've glued them in place with plexi cement.

-The last thing I did was mill a quick bevel on the PSU brackets. I will be doing a test fit sometime tonight.
As for marking up ports and stuff on the new back panel: Does anyone have any gnomes I could borrow? They have to be able to fit inside the closed case, with a sharpie.

 

Gremlins would work as well I think
