Argh! I love the UK, but I'm always so confused why you guys often get movies made in the U.S. a week before we do.

It used to be that we would get them up to a year after you guys did. And that was for just about everything regardless of where they were made.

    AoU

Just a quick note to say I really did enjoy it. The orginal was a surprise for me in 2012 as I wasn't too fussed about it since I was focused on Prometheus but it turned out to be probably my film of the year (Avengers that is, not Prometheus).

My fave bit in AoU - I'd say Veronica, you'll know what I mean when you see her.

Except that research shows that making guns illegal does reduce their presence on the street. Meanwhile making drugs legal reduces their harm.

Science: bitch slapping belief systems since the Renaissance.

    Heroine illegal eh?

Guess what, we did that in 1956 and the number of deaths from Opiates abuse fell sharply.

We made handguns illegal in 1996, guess what? The number of shootings involving handguns went up... oh wait actually it fell sharply.

The baby may be pulling a funny face, but babies are really stupid, you shouldn't go to them for policy advice.

I think you'll find the number of handgun related incidents increased actually, unless you can provide accurate stats proving otherwise.

Also, drug abuse and illegal gun ownership are not affected by the law, just so you know, hence them being illegally used regardless- their use has not stopped, and people are still hurt and killed as a result. Laws only affect the people that follow them ;)

    I'll just leave this here...
Gun laws do reduce gun violence.

Reduction in legal ownership doesn't make a single bit of difference in illegal ownership- the black market for firearms is alive and well; banning something doesn't affect illegal ownership. Ya know, cos criminals don't go through legal channels to acquire their guns to start with- a fact lost on the hoi poloi...

    Also, this:

You're also ignoring the main issue arguably, which is culture; the UK never had a violent culture or us vs them mentallity that is so prevalent in the USA, for example. The number of gun crimes carried out by legally owned weapons can be counted on one hand over the last few decades in the UK- some of those could have been prevented if the police actually listened to the people saying that the owners weren't suitable to hold a fire arms certificate ( Dunblane being a prime example of a tragic incident that could have been avoided ).

Remember how banning the sale of knives made little to no difference to illegal use? I do. :)

That is a fantastic example of "lies, damned lies and statistics."

Gives a gun ownership statistic followed by a general crime statistic. Unless all crimes incorporated firearms then it's completely meaningless, unlike:

which is actually normalised on a per x people basis and is specific to gun deaths. I accept that this isn't precisely gun crime, but it's a far better measure than the general crime rate.

I hate that cliché. People cherry-pick the numbers they use in order to suit their agenda; however: numbers don't lie, people lie.
