I recently bought this for work a couple months ago and I'm loving it.

It's motorized.. 49CC but it goes stupidly fast..

I'm not sure if the frame is rare.. it's a CCM. I just love retro bikes and all.

Great choice. When you sent that link I did wonder about suggesting looking at that frame.

Crankset looks great on it, but not sure about the grey tape, looks like dirty white tape in that pic. What about adding some colour there? I'd go blue to go with my club kit.

Some advice, if I may. Thought it better to ask this here, rather than in the marketplace.

If I were to offer this up for sale, what would be a fair price?

It's a Carrera Subway 1 (2015), everything is stock and there are no issues I'm aware of (though the tyres & brake pads probably need replacing soon). I'm considering getting something with front suspension for light use (keeping my carbon road bike for commuting and "proper" rides); from what I gather, fitting suspension forks to a frame that wasn't designed for it is not a good idea.

Disappointingly they're now offering this for £180 new, despite the fact that I paid over twice that amount for it, so I suspect I wouldn't get much.

I did bin off the tape in the end as I recabled the who thing with white outers. Also did a cheeky shifter upgrade to some SRAM Rivals with 3K carbon levers.
Tape wise its classic black Cinelli cork. Account colour im going with tiny touches of gold an thats it. Its in a shop now being bar taped as I am rubbish at it they guys in there thought it looked stunning so its in there on a display stand now :D Ill get some proper photos when its back.

You could get away with some short travel forks on that need to measure the axle to crown see what you have probably 80-100mm travel at most though I reckon.

Forget fitting a suspension fork, the cheapest forks worth using (Rockshox Recon) will set you back £150+ for a good one, which is more than the rest of the bike's worth. You won't get more than £70-100 for the bike, stuff from Halfords has no resale value, it's like the Medion of cycling (sorry).

If you're wanting to ride it off road a decent set of mtb tyres would be much better, or just roll around on it as is.

Yeah, those are about the figures I had in my head :).

TBH I'm not looking to do off-road stuff with it, I'm more interested in just smoothing out the ride a bit. I don't do high speeds or long rides on this bike (got my road bike for that); I use it for nipping to the shop or gently pootling around with the other half, and it's a bit of a spine-jarring ride sometimes.

I'll take a look into better tyres & saddles :).

For shopping/poodling can you just drop some PSI from the tyres?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I run them quite high. Plenty of other things I can do, too.

Chaps, I'm looking to get a mount for my phone, preferably on the stem rather than the handlebars or out in front. You'd think this would be the sort of thing that'd be easy as pie to source, but I'm having trouble finding anything suitable. Anyone have any recommendations? The phone is a first gen Moto G, fwiw, although ideally I'd be looking for a fairly universal mount. Are the mounts that basically consist of a criss-cross rubber band the best type, or would you guys recommend an alternative?

    Cheers!

In other bike news, I've had my Boardman Hybrid Comp for nearly three months now and I'm absolutely loving it. I've been commuting five days a week come rain or shine, so I've not been on a bus since June. I clocked up 450 miles in August, so I'm feeling fairly pleased with myself :)

I have a Moto G 3rd gen (and as it happens a Boardman Hybrid Comp :))

I use a Quad Lock Universal Kit with this case: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motomo-Al...ver-For-Motorola-Moto-G-3rd-Gen-/141784352530
(You really need something with a flat back and suitable material to adhere well to the universal mount (3M VHB). Not sure about a suitable 1st gen option.)

I really like the Quad Lock system though.
It's very neat and low profile on the bike, super quick and easy to remove and feels really solid and secure :)worried:).

I was going to suggest a quad lock kit, but if the 1st Gen Moto G has a curved back then it's probably a no-go. Unless you can find a case with a flat back. I have the same problem with the LG G3...

The Motomo aluminium cases are a really weird design for general use but actually pretty ideal for the Quad Lock mount. Took me ages to find something suitable because the Moto G3 back is very curved so almost all cases are too. They are available for for a fairly wide range of phones.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Although the 1st gen Moto G does indeed have quite a curved back, the case I'm currently using is relatively flat. i'll do a bit of research on the Quad Lock mount and see if it's a goer.

Sorry guys, I have another (unrelated) question!

I was checking my bike this afternoon and noticed that the rear tyre has lost almost all of its tread at the point of contact with the road. The front is fine, fwiw, and the bike has only done about 1,000 miles. Am I right to be a little concerned that the tread has gone so quickly? The tyres are the stock Vittoria Zaffiros that came with the bike.

Is it reasonable to expect tyres to last more than 1,000 miles? Would you guys have any recommendations for replacement tyres? The current tyres are 700 x 32, and I'm not particularly minded to go narrower just now. Apologies for the dumb questions, but this is the first bike I've owned for many years and I've previously only ridden bikes with mountain bike tyres.

My stock Zaffiros look okay but as it happens I'm literally just about to swap them out for some 28mm Schwalbe Durano Pluses, mainly for a bit more durability and puncture resistance.

Not tested them yet but hey seem superficially nice and have a good reputation. Apparently not the most light and supple road tyre (a bit heavier than the stock 28x700 Zaffiros they replaced) but seem suited to my purposes.

Got them for £20 each here: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/schwalbe-durano-plus-performance-rigid-road-tyre-1/

The tread being gone is nothing to worry about. Smooth rubber will grip just as well and the tread is pretty much aesthetic. The rear tire will wear faster than the front due to additional weight.

Safety helmets: Turn out to be not quite so safe when an angry buzzing thing gets stuck inside them and stings you repeatedly in the head while you try to put aside the intense pain in order to focus on avoiding swerving into the path of the lorries brushing your shoulder as they pass :waah:

    :)

Robin Williams' bike collection is being auctioned for the Christopher & Dana Reeve foundation.

Not that I expect anyone here to actually buy one, but his bike room was the stuff of legend and it's well worth a look for the interesting stuff from history he had.

    My personal highlights.
    Mk1 Outland VPP
K2 Proflex with Noleen electro suspension
    Zipp 2001 TT bike
Independant Fabrication custom (not terribly unique but it's an IF, so it's porn, porn I tell you!)
    Trek Y33
1999 GT STS (as ridden by Peaty back in the day)
