I remember having to redial/reconnect every 2 hours...

...that said I'm with VM so not much has changed

 

I remember having a faster connection at my parents house in 2000 than I'm currently able to get via a fixed line today...



Fortunately, 4G has been my saviour.



Though it's not the most consistent...

 

We recently moved to plusnet from timico and it's been good so far - on the with timico's fttc we were getting ~45Mbps down and ~12Mbps up so it's a decent bump (and for less money too which is always nice)

 

I've had a week of fairly inconsistent results using the EE-provided hardware with their external antenna. A few days of decent speeds, and then intermittent drops to <10MBit down. They talked about network conditions, weather conditions etc - I wasn't entirely convinced.

I took a punt on a new 4G modem/router, a Huawei B525 and everything is fixed, or has been since Thursday anyway.



Down speeds have yet to drop below the low 40s, and up speeds have been hovering just over 10, and latency has dropped from a low 30s best case to the low 20s consistently - oddly with the external antenna attached the speeds are markedly worse and less consistent. Go figure.

 

New flat means new internet, luckily hyperoptic are in the building!

 

I really want to take the 1 Gbps package offer... it’s really not worth it as I haven’t got enough time in the day to use it.

I am tempted to go from my 100 Mbps to 300 Mbps, though. I just need to get my hands on a better router first before I do anything like that.

 

Mmmmmmmmm, point to point fibre would make me giddier than a schoolgirl. I'd take gigabit PON in a heartbeat, if only for the 220mbit upload. Sadly (though in no way a legitimate "complaint") I'm not so fortunate as to be one of the lucky few on a 10Gb OLT so this is the best there is for now:



Makes a change from the best fixed-line option just one month ago though...



And the extremely usable but capped and expensive workaround for the last couple of years...



Though this now serves as my backup/failover, so will do very nicely for that.

I would too. It’s not actually fibre as far as I can tell. It’s over coax like my current offering. Either way.... powaaaaaah!

 

Took a while to get to that point. It's super sensitive to placement and necessitated me buying my own gateway (which lives in the peak of the loft)- with the right positioning it's faster and more stable than either of my external antennae.
