But a crap economy will kill people, they will just be less visible that corona deaths. Unfortunately the government being up the eyeballs in debt means it cuts funding to all sorts of health related programs which result in lots of deaths just spread over many areas. Think crap screening for cancers, poor mental health support, non-existent drug rehab, preventing obesity etc.

Not to mention the overall deterioration of peoples quality of life from reduced public services.

Now I'm not saying we sacrifice all the countries granny's to save the economy but at some point a 'low' amount of deaths due to corona is better than freezing the country indefinitely (its not like a cure is a few weeks away).

We're already there with mental health support and drug rehab, not far off with the others.

Question: Do you guys wear a mask everywhere or just when you go in closed places (stores) or crowded outdoor places? I’m currently cruising in the neighborhood with my bicycle, I don’t wear a mask ATM but I try to keep my distances as much as possible.

That argument ignores the issue that we should have locked down much much earlier (at the very latest when Italy admitted in February that the virus was spreading unchecked in the wild).

Had all of western Europe shut down hard back then in a coordinated fashion not only would many lives have been saved, the lockdown could have also been lifted after a shorter time (thus reducing economic damage).

Yes, but.: the primary protection mechanism is staying as far from people as feasible. The mask is backup against numptys who would be unable to understand what "two metres" was if you beat them upside the head with a metre-stick twice.

So no more daily updates, it all must be fine then...

Be a shock if people think they can take a holiday, many countries have us on a list of don't touch with a bargepole as our stats are still so dire.

Yet the way BoJo and half of the media talk about it it's as if it's party in the streets time.

The mask is to protect others, not you.

Credit where credit's due, with regard to the pandemic, Trump is not quite as useless and ignorant as the president of Brazil.

You could say the same of a chair TBH.

I think that whatever is happening to try and help in the US is in spite of Trump, not because of him.

To be fair local authorities have quite a lot of autonomy to do things regardless of what the leaning blob of fake tan does at the federal level.

Oh I agree, the fact we just left airports running as usual and did diddly squat as Italy fell to pieces was moronic.

Well the good lady goes for her guinea pig test today. Although with the NHS she's never had a Covid-19 test but they're rushing through antibody testing.

So, what's the point beyond research? I mean many in her department have come back as having antibodies so it's been about (would confirm my suspicions of our late feb illnesses) but beyond that it practically changes nothing. Nothing at all.

I mean there's no guarantee of any sort of immunity so beyond research I cannot see what information is going to become apparent.

Edit: After a quick bit of googleoony it seems Abbott and Roche got the contracts and Conservative life peer Lord Glendonbrook appears on the Registers of Interests as having shareholdings in Abbott Laboratories and Roche Holdings AG. Perhaps I should ask him.
