The top few listed on ProtoTypist switches section:
    - AM Icy Silver
    - Gateron RAW
    - GEON clear tactile (obvious enough)
    - GEON Black tactile (heavier tactile?)
    - Cherry Special ‘Ergo’ clear
    - Clickbits
    - Gateron Oil King
    …and the list goes on

At least I recognise that one... still a daft name.

A lot of reviews, articles or whatever come across as:

And it does my head in.

Do people look on Chinese Taobao for keycaps? Any recommendations?

I'm in China for a week, in a few weeks time.

I'm considering this PBT set for my Keychron K4v2.
    https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z0d.6639537/tb.1997196601.24.729474840vMQOI&id=684467265426
    upload_2023-9-8_21-15-31.png

Most of the keycaps prices looks too good to be true. 150 RMB is just £17! A lot of smaller sets are just 100 RMB.

    Thur edit:
In the end, I bought that keycap set and it turn out to be Keychrone PBT-12, which is fully compatible with my K4v2 and has ISO UK keys.

I also bought 110 factory lubed Cherry MX Ergo Clear switches and dampening pads for the switches

    Total cost: £70. :D

Got the keycaps and switches installed.

Keychron K4v2 RGB with aluminum frame as base
Cherry MX ergo clear RGB casing, factory lubed, whatever that means.
    Keychron PBT-12 key set
    teamwolf stainless steel arrow keycaps

The odd height top right keys are by choice, it makes it easier to find right keys by feel.

Pulled an old friend down from the shelves, initially for a photo-op but then I plugged it in and remembered just how lovely it is to use...

Not exactly ergonomic, though, and there's a bunch of keys I use pretty regularly missing. I think I mapped Caps Lock to Super last time I used it, but it's mapped to Ctrl for modern layouts.

Quick family portrait while they're together:

Turns out I like consistency in layout and feel. The little ones are silent reds and the big one is blacks. Cherry MX, obvs

A couple of my group buy boards have come through. I’m going to need to brush up my soldering skills…

i think i may have asked about this before but cant remember, i have a massdrop ergodox kit i got years ago but never assembled, and have been out of the loop for so long so need some advice
do i just build it as the instructions say or are there any "mods" or adjustments i should consider?

I'm not familiar with that particular keyboard, but the assembly instructions probably sound like a good place to start.

For a split ergo board like that, the only "mod" that immediately comes to mind is tenting - although there might already be tenting options in the kit.

I used these (ocuk link) on a previous board. Spec is listed, so you could probably source the same thing anywhere.

Shared in the recent purchases thread, but I'll post here with a little more detail.

    Barebones Keychron Q6 pro ISO-UK
Akko fairy switches - silent linear 50gf
Random Amazon grey gradient PBT side illuminated caps with the standard cherry form

Zero other mods thus far, gasket is nice, only things I need to work on are going to be the stabs which are noisy compared to the rest of the keys and possibly change the knob to one that matches a little better the top row.
What is very hard to pick up in photos is the slight metallic sheen to the caps.

With my Q2, I needed to re-lube the stabs and ended up replacing one of them entirely, I think it was the stab under the enter key, but it was a lot better after that. I’ve had that for a fair while though so would have hoped they’d got better over time.

    Nice looking set up though!

Thank2! Yeah thinking I'll just replace them outright, looked at some Durock V2's everyone seems to be saying about some TX ones being better now, but I don't seem to be able to find them in screw in flavour, I'll hunt about if not the Durocks should be ample for my needs.
