I got what I originally wanted.

A while back I bought an Asus keyboard and a load of kiwi switches. Sadly the board did not work ffs. I also bought clear keycaps. Which didn't fit properly.

So this time I got this.

    And a load of these.

It's hot swappable. Meaning I just have to swap the switches. And I know the keys will all be for the correct rows and the space bar will be correct and etc.

Ironically it cost less than the project stuff I bought, doh.

I think I’m going to have to get one. I’ve been thinking about a separate keyboard for work (so I can take to the office with me), and this is an ideal price at which to try out an Alice layout.

EDIT: Supports Mac layout too. Right, I’m sold!

I so nearly got that one. Thing is if I didn't get on with it I would then have to buy another, 'cause my Razer back at the flat is fudged.

When I am a bit more flush I am deffo in. I used to love my MS natural.

The only catch is there are no Mac keycaps included, but if you're happy pressing Win to get Command that ain't a problem!

    EDIT:
Oh, and I thought the Super key was broken: turns out it shipped in "Windows lock" mode - blocks off the Super key for gaming. There's a Fn shortcut to disable it - probably Fn-Super - and it stores the last state in memory.

I’ve got a complete set of caps from my Keychron K8, which includes the weird Mac keycaps. As long as the modifiers are the same size it should all be good. If that doesn’t work I can get by on muscle memory - I do that now with my Keychron anyway.

About halfway through my Hackster articles now. Is it as good as the Keychron? No, it's not. Is it worth the £37? Absolutely, well pleased with it at that price.

Going to take a while before I stop catching the volume control when I'm trying to hit Del, though...

Battery is totally hosed on mine now. My own fault for leaving it plugged in almost permanently and not running battery conditioning. Sadly no amount of conditioning will save it now, I think the NiMH is too far gone.

Further to this, my initial impressions - although I haven’t done any serious work on it yet…

    It seems… fine.

Keycaps look a bit rough - not a fan of those legends, and they look like they should be shinethrough but aren’t.

I was annoyed when I thought that this “\|” key is a non-standard size (although I knew about that from Gareth’s photos). Turns out that’s normal for ANSI layout.

This, however, is annoying. I can’t fit my Mac Keychron caps. Left-hand Ctrl/Opt/Cmd keys are fine, pretty sure that’s 1.25U, but the right-hand ones are 1U and I don’t have 1U Mac-specific caps for those keys.

Other than that it feels… fine. South-facing backlight seems nice and bright. Decent enough to type on with a pleasing sound. I don’t think those switches will take much abuse, and they feel a bit stiff for my liking, but that’s not really an issue with hot swap sockets. You end up with about 4 spares out of the box anyway.

Yeah it is such a crap shoot trying to fit aftermarket caps tbh. No matter how large the set they always seem to be incomplete or have the wrong spacebar.

After I have had a shower I will crack on with mine.

    Well the shark is done.

Fitting the yellow coloured kiwi switches had an unexpected result. It now looks like a nixie clock.

The boards are still milling round china, but the switches have turned up. Considering they're meant to be 65g, they feel very soft, much more so than either my mx silent blacks or clears, although the clears have a heavier spring in than stock I think. Hopefully I still have the old clear springs and can see what they feel like in them. The bump in them is very nice though, right at the top of the travel, nice cushioned landing too. Think we'll get along just fine.

The boards are still in china, but the first of the cases has arrived. Was a bit skeptical of what their quality would be like, but it's really nice.

Proper ykk zip, gorgeously soft interior. Might be a bit too deep, but can always adjust the depth with foam of some sort. Case for the main board should arrive soon.

Oh balls, no it won't. Now put of stock and won't be being sent. Balls.
