This is deffinately one of the projects I want to do. Old school games rock. Up in college, my brother and his roommates have a PS2, and XBox, a dreamcast, and NES, and 4 computers. They spend the most time on the NES. RBI Baseball and Mutant Teenage Ninja Turtles r00l!
Did you use a holesaw attachment on a drill to mill the button holes? If not, how did you go about it? Also good choice of joystick, so much easier to mount than the ultimate 8-way jobby i picked up
Oh man you make history come to life ! This is like a flash back ! Nice man you make a old man happy to read this, i remebered the good old days !
Hey Neighbour! Sweet project I've been more or less planing to build me a mame cab for 1½ years but never gotten around to it. Now i'll get the inspiration i need *Subscribed*
Once again, sorry for the delay, schoolprojects taking up all my time! But now I'm back with an update and some answers for you! Thats true for sure! I have now tried this set up for a while, and I WILL change the layout of the buttons in the final design (this was just an test). I bought them, and the trackball from Ultimarc.com for around $180, included shipping to Norway. Sure! Here you go: UltiMAME.skb Feel free to use it as you like, but remember keep us informed of any new MAME project! Oldscool arcadegames, lets name a few: Final Fight Cabal 1942 Metal Slug Wonder Boy Cabal City Bomber Outrun and the list just goes on....... I used an normal drill with an large, flat "drillhead" (dunno whats it called!) Tjenare! Just go ahead! If I can be of any help, just ask me! UPDATE: All buttons in place and hole for the trackball finished. A shot of the back before the microswitches and wires is installed. For now it looks pretty tidy! Trackball in place. Next step was to install the microswitches, still tidy under here! This is the I-Pac, every button has to be wired up with it. The next step of the prosess was, by far, the most timeconsuming part. Every button had to be wired to the I-Pac, this is the materials and tools i used. First i wired all the "common ground" on the buttons together. Like this in one big "loop". Next step: Wire up all the individual buttons to the I-Pac, took me 4 hours, wen't to bed at 04:00 that night! But the final result didn't look that bad, in spite of the time of day and my awakeness! I have grouped the wires from the different groups of buttons in different colors to make it easier to do trouble shooting later on. Now it was MR Opti-Pac's turn to get bolted to the board an wired up to the trackball. So... This is how it looks when done, the wires are all tied up and everything lokks pretty tidy back here! It was time to fire up one of my big time favorites, Final Fight, and take this board for a test drive!....... ......WOILA! It worked like a charm, this is sooooo coooool! I'm in heaven! My flatmates just couldn't get enough of playing "Summer Games", not much sleep on those guys in the next weeks! - Remember, this is just a testboard, the final controllpanel will be constructed and build with the experience i got by constructing this one in mind. Thats it for now folks! ....I WILL try to put up the next update in a couple of days...... - Audun
mmmmmmmm old school............................wait i'm nto old enough to be completely old school *walks over to corner and cries*
WOW!!! Great work dude, I have always dreamed of having an old school style arcade machine myself. I hope to start one someday. Really good work on the panel, great work on the wiring, very organized and neat Good luck with the rest of the project...if you can stop playing on it now
sweet mod dude, that was another mod i have been planning for a while now but i have never had the room to do anything like that. hopefully i'll get some good insight from your trials on this project. Good Luck.
very cool. this would be a lot of peoples dreams. btw: Are those 4-way or 8-way joysitcks? Coz some games that used 4-way ones dont play very well on 8-way sticks. omg you should hook up a spinner! Then you can play Tempest!!!!
Thanks! The sticks is changeable from 4 to 8-way with just a quick turn of the baseplate, -handy! I'm thinking of connecting a spinner to the machine, have to make room for it on the cp. but maybe some time......
It's called a wood spade. Awesome looking mod, by the way. Is it a mod, or just flat out construction?
