At the moment I have an ATI 5770 graphics card and an HP ZR24w monitor. They are connected via Displayport. The monitor doesn't have HDMI. It only has DVI and Displayport. The native res is 1920x1200. I'm thinking of getting an nVidia 460 card. These don't have Displayport outputs, only DVI and HDMI. They all say "Dual-link DVI". I can't find anything that will convert an HDMI output to a Displayport input (the other way round is fine, but not exactly cheap). My question is quite simple: will an nVidia 460 drive my monitor at 1920x1200 via its DVI output? Thanks! Caroline
Well, I haven't tried it with the 5770! It came with a Displayport cable and I have Displayport on my monitor. So I just plugged it in with that. Added to that, I had a dim and distant memory of DVI having a problem above 1600x1200. I'm guessing that's what "Dual-link" fixes? Caroline
nope dual link is for extreme resolution above 1,915 × 1,436 (4:3) or a variation of i.e. 16:9, 16:10 etc
Unless you have a very early video card with DVI (when DVI came out), you should have absolutely no problem. If my Geforce FX 5200 can do it, so can your graphic card.
