hehe nice to see a review, and more so of a card we've not seen reviewed yet.

 

What about the 2nd bios? From EVGA's admittedly old video featuring a 680, when describing the dual bios feature they say the 2nd bios has higher power limits allowing for better overclocking. Is this the case here?

 

Nice card but at £600+ these 1080 cards are going to be redundant once the Ti lands, even reduced to £500 they'll be too expensive for the prospective 1070 purchaser and too close in price to the 1080Ti for people not to splash the extra cash for Ti.

Just as the 980 died at retail once the 970 & 980Ti were available, so will these 1080's and will be seen as an over priced stop gap.

 

Assuming, of course that the 1080Ti lands in the pricing region you're expecting. The price landscape has changed and whilst I imagine the performance gap between the SKUs will change somewhat as well, I think we're faced with prospect of a very expensive Ti part this time around, close to Titan money. Maybe even Titan money, with a new Titan price that's even higher.

Hope not, but it would be in-line with the increase of the other products in the lineup.

 

Nice review, and what an absolute monster the 1080 is. IMO it totally justifies the price.

One thing I would put against the card however is the 3 year warranty. I know it's the standard from EVGA, but IMO their FT.W cards, being the top drawer hardware that they are, should also come with a more substantial warranty.

Nah, three years as standard but you can purchase extended warranties.

 

Its not the first rime Ive seen this happen and it really has got to go. When you can't even link to your own articles without resorting to a workaround you've got to see it as a problem right?

Either that or get EVGA to change their F.T.W. line to the cheesecake line.

 

Cheesecake is far more important than some daft EVGA product line

 

There psus come with a 10 year standard warranty. You can buy a 5 or 10 year on purchase of a gpu.

I think a 1080ti will be last gens Titan price £900 ish ? Next Titan above a £1000 easy

 

Great performance but absurd price. Nvidia have added a £150 premium on their 980-tier card here and we're expected to smile?

 

I'm thinking this review unit is just a dog when Overclocking is concerned. I have the EVGA GTX 1080 SuperClocked which is still a reference designed PCB and 1x8pin power connector (not to mention a lower price point). Granted I am using an EK waterblock, but with this "lesser" card I was still able to get a stable 2126MHz OC, 100% stable after 2 hours of stress testing, and temps never peaked above 46C.

Thinking the silicon lottery is definitely playing a factor in this review unites poor OC performance, and others will hopefully have more success with it.

Also Kudos for including a 970 in the tests, so us normal people can relate.

This 980 didn't "die" when the 970 and 980ti arrived. There's also absolutely no suggestion of a 1080ti..

The 1080 is faster than the 1070 by enough to justify the difference where as the 980/970 wasn't really.

Nvidia have the right balance here, so much in fact that a 1080ti wouldn't be needed unless competition from another brands required it.

 

There have been rumours of a Titan or ti, gp102, but only from rumour sites.

There's plenty of wattage headroom to do so, it would be uncharacteristic of NVidia not to make a Titan, and then a slightly cut down version.

Will be interesting to see what happens to gp104's pricing when Polaris hits the shelves.
