Why so much RAM? That's a ludicrous amount that I can't see you ever needing :/

Am I missing the point of this thread? What's your question?

The other day I had Dawn of War II, 3 copies of the Eclipse IDE (don't ask..), Firefox, plus the usual background apps (MSN, Skype, uTorrent, Steam, Putty, IRC, Media Center, anti virus), and I think I was using a smidgeon over 3 gigs of RAM. I can't think of many usage scenarios that would call for 8 gigs of RAM so, unless he really really needs it, I would recommend putting that money elsewhere.

    Photoshop.

In addition; nVidia chipsets suck in general, and the PSU looks crappy.

All in all this is not a good way to spend your cash on a games system.

Then maybe you should write 2x 8800GT in SLI.

Isn't always better to get a single more expensive graphics card rather than 2 cheaper ones in SLI? I can think of 2 exceptions: folding and I've vaguely heard 4770 in crossfire in worth it :)

8gb of ram does seem pointless... Even for Photoshop... Unless your files are HUGE...

Hey, having 8GB RAM is pretty cool.

    :p

I enjoy having 4GB RAM and a usable RAM disk at the same time.

I don't see the reason for all this whining about 8GB of RAM. He obviously wants it to be futureproof. I would do the same if I were to build a PC today. I don't want to have to worry about upgrading RAM.

Unless you already have one 8800GTS lying about then dont do SLI, unless you want ridiculous performace (as in 4870X2 x2) or you already have one card NEVER SLI/Crossfire, doesnt make sense, go for a 4870X2, and change the mobo to an intel chipset, E7500 is ok, for HDD go for Samsung Spinpoint F1, very fast and reliable, 8GB of RAM is unecessary unless your doing ultra HD Rendering or something, for gaming, go for a decent speed (say DDR2 1066MHz and find the lowest latency possible)
Go for corsair PSU/Antec Basiq if your budget is low very good value for money and 600W is ok

So you're asking if we think your computer is good?

Sure, it's good. When did you assemble it?

Why would you need a 1200watt PSU? I don't see quad Xeons and triple GTX 295s in your system. :p

I wasn't whining, just trying to get him the best bang for his buck! I made the not unreasonable assumption that he probably wouldn't need 8 gigs, which turned out to be erroneous. Mea culpa. I'm upgrading to 6 gigs soon, I just don't consider my needs to be anything close to typical :p
