Ok well I had an old IBM Aptiva case sitting under my house and thought why not practice some modding on it! Basically this is my first real go at modding and is not going to cost me many dollars at all 1. I don't want to really spend much money and 2. Don't really have much money. Anyway to the modding! Here is the case: Here is what I've done so far: Cut a window out, filed and sanded:- Disasembled chassis:- And here is what I'm planning on doing: For the window no perspex, looking at using a metal mesh bin And this colour scheme:- Opinions and ideas welcome!
Nice and clean cut out, and funky coloure scheme Mesh is sweet, go for it! what coloure shall the mesh have? \\Balder
pff. where is t3h rust??!!11/ Wow - love the fluorescent colours, they'll surely make your case stand out! I'm glad you're going for mesh, as I much prefer it to plexi (it just plain looks better - and you dont need so many cable ties! ). This should be a fun project Hoping you learn alot along the way.
Minor Update: Well this afternoon after I got home from school I went to one of my local hardware stores and got some paint and sandpaper: When I got home from the hardware store I got the metal bin from my room and cut it up!: But when I tried to fit the mesh to the hole there were gaps so I have no bin in my room for no reason! Oh well... With some of the scrap metal from the window cut out I decided to practice my painting skills, so I gave a few pieces a light sand with some other sandpaper not taking much care to remove scratches just a surface to paint on! I gave it 2 light coats of undercoat and about 3 or 4 light coats of paint and here are the results: Here you can see some of the scratches and other crap and how shiny it turned out! It seems our coffee table is shinyer than the paint work.... When I get to painting the actual case I will take more care and put more effort into making it an uber sweet paint job. This was only a practice since I havn't really done much painting before.
Looking nice bro! Its a breath of fresh, nonrusty (so far) air! As to paint, have u considered metalcast? meh, might be too flashy tho...
Minor Update Well I went to my hardware store today to get a some inspiration, handle and mesh and this is what I came home with. 2 clamps A handle Another can of paint Dremel cutting/sanding kit and; A tin of plastic putty I also did the marking out for the fan hole in the front: Tomorrow I'll be doing some cutting and some puttying and whatever else comes to mind.
Ok.. I couldn't resist, I just HAD to do some modding, but unfortunately you won't get to see what I did till tomorrow!
Ok well here is what I did last night: I'm just about to go do some plastibonding and some other things, hopefully will have pics up by the end of the day.
Update Here is what I did today: I added my handle to the top:- And plastibonded the front to get rid of the awful grooves:- Now I'm just waiting for it to dry and tomorrow afternoon when I get home from school I'll do some sanding! And more gap filling etc.
wow only mod i have seen where they have put the handle on rthe right way, so that you can use one hand to carry it instead of two
