If anyone interested in the AMD Radeon 7970, it is now available for purchase in some online stores: Here is for Newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...a-_-na&AID=10440897&PID=3332167&SID=u00000687 The card is about 550$ to 600$ U.S, or about 400 pounds excluding VAT (direct monetary conversion, I did not check the actual price in the U.K).
I know and that is a nice thought but still. I never liked those 2inches long bulky adapters. Just don’t like the idea of putting that pressure on the port.
Available in the UK from both Aria and OCUK at the moment. Scan showing as coming very soon. Prices ranging from £431 on Aria (VTX3D branded) to £520ish on OCUK for the Asus model. Oddly OCUK are £70 MORE expensive on the Asus card than Aria who have it for a reasonable £459.99 with stock (checked 5 minutes ago). All launch cards are reference design so should take the Asus unlocked (for higher clocks/volts) bios anyway. Package contents may differ though.
Scan's prices are jumping all over the place one of the xfx 7970's was on pre-order for about 430 now it's 530 even scan's own has gone up to 480 Overclockers reference card pre-order looks to be the cheapest at 420
OCUK are usually more expensive than anyone else. I find it odd that there are people who almost exclusively buy from them, given their normal high prices.
Prices have been everywhere this morning, I bought Scan's ScanFX (judging by stock of other cards and prices, should be the Asus) for £458, whereas now it's £479, which was the price of the Asus card at the time, which has now gone up too. Basically, everyone's getting low on stock...
Ebuyer have the Powecolor card for £417 now! - EDIT: Back up to £444... Go Go Go : HD7970 (14 in stock at last check 14:22 09/01/2012) Just ordered one, can't say no at that price. Earlier on this morning it was £444.... Oddly they have dropped the price possibly reflecting the RRP reduction direct from AMD?! OCUK want £479.99 for it. The Asus card is also up to £559 now on OCUK - what a joke, especially as it is pre order only. On a side note can't wait to get this up and running and benched against my HD6970 in Eyefinity.
On this side of the pond, prices are ~ $60 more than than the 580, which for the performance increase vs the 580 is a hell of a bargian.
Using Newegg prices and Bit-tech BF3 benchmarks: GTX580 - $500 - 28min/33avg HD7970 - $550 - 33min/41avg GTX580 - $/fpsmin $17.86 - $/fpsavg $15.15 HD7970 - $/fpsmin $16.67 - $/fpsavg $13.41 Not too shabby even with the high price.
Rip off retailers! Why spend £500 on a HD7970, when a GTX590 is faster??? I'm now thinking of holding off from the HD7970 and going for the GTX780.
The GTX590 is more expensive? A quick peak at Scan shows it's pretty pricey. £500 for a 7970, £650 for a GTX590. Using those BF3 benchmarks it's it's almost identical in £/fps minimum and slightly less cost effective in £/fps average. Aria don't have a GTX590 for comparison but their 7970s are lower priced (More around £450) making it more cost effective than a GTX590 from Scan.
