Because of all of the issues they have had. GN could not even review the 9600x because it was broken.
…oof. That’s a bit of a bump on current prices for Zen4… I like the idea of the huge reduction in power consumption, but not at that premium… At the risk of sounding like an apologist or flag-waving loony rushing to the defence of a multi-billion dollar corporation with more wealth than many countries combined… At least AMD acknowledged the issues and recalled the affected chips. Intel not doing so well at that right now…
Well they didn't because they sent Steve from Gamer's Nexus a dead one Yeah the situation at Intel sucks. They need to do a full recall IMO. Not try and bodge over the real issues. However, with that said I have heard about earlier AMD CPUs failing too (most notably the 3600 likes to just die stone dead). This is easily Ryzens most dull release ever. There is just no getting away from it. I also don't like how they are pushing these CPUs heavily toward reviewers of gaming stuff, yet they are crud for gaming. Why don't they just release the X3D chips instead of doing an Intel and segmenting the launches? However, with all of that said I will never again buy a launch product. Thankfully I was OK with the 12700KF and it turned out to be their best in years. But issues with everything just puts me off now.
Warning, Steve has clearly been at the caffeine and his motor mouth everyythingturnsintooneloneunbrokensentenceanddoestheguyevenbreathe? presentation is especially... well... steve.
What a freaking joke, they somehow managed to port the utterly absurd special software requirements of the 7900x3D / 7950x3D to the 9900x and 9950x...
Let's just say that my PC's rolling upgrade fund just became a phone upgrade fund (see latest purchases thread)
The core parking thing I don't think is bad. There's almost always one CCD that performs better than the other, why not prioritize it?
It can be a bad thing on the 12 core parts specifically owing to each ccd being 6 cores... parking one ccd means for some things your 12-acting-as-6 core cpu can be outdone by single ccd, but 8 core, parts. It's why, even with v-cache the 12-core x3d part's gaming perf was a bit ****.
If it was part of the regular thread scheduler in windows and just worked? Sure. But having to set it up manually just to avoid a massive performance penalty that didn't exist on Zen 4? No thanks.
i am a fan of amd.. have been for a while, but this cpu launch is a bitter pill to swallow.. perfect opportinuty right now for them to maximise sales etc with some of the issues intel is having
It just shows how high the AMD CPU division is riding - they're embarking on their own Sky Lake odyssey.
A random thought that came to mind the other day... Intel's i7s were 4c/8t for 9 years and 7 generations... Ryzen 7s have been 8c/16t for 7 years [likely 9 by the time zen 6 comes out] and 6 generations...
Same as it ever was. Remember NetBurst? Remember how terrible it was? Remember how AMD's market share grew for six years until Intel ditched it... only for AMD to launch its own NetBurst-like Bulldozer architecture, which it would retain for six years...
Given intel's recent problems, and AMD having to recall cpus due to "something" and delaying the launch only to later release an raft of damp squibs, I wonder if we're beginning to see the problems in the current lithography methods not being able to reliably produce the transistors at such small dimensions.
