Apple seems to be managing it, but then again they have control over everything, including the software stack, so who knows what they're hiding.
Apple is just scaling up ARM chips that have no performance to start with because they didn't need it as phone chips never had to run real software before. And I'm not saying that to criticize Apple... I'm just saying that there is no special magic trick to massively outperforming a terrible baseline, just like there was no special magic tricks when Zen absolutely wrecked Bulldozer. Also it is highly likely they are exploiting the potential of the igpu similarly to what Intel does with Quicksync. Plus of course, not crippling your chips with the bloatware known as windows certainly helps. But ultimately the chips all come out of the same tiny selection of factories and are made on the same equipment, so they'll all hit the same ceilings sooner or later.

9800X3D is out and a tiny bit better than 7800X3D by all accounts. Meanwhile, the 9950X3D has allegedly surfaced on a benchmarking website and scoring significantly higher than the 9800X3D. (9900X3D & 9950X3D apparently have their under-mounted vcache on both CCUs this time around, instead of on top of only one in the 7000-series) https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-com...ercent-faster-than-current-fastest-gaming-cpu
9950x3D gonna be stupid fast and expensive, but honestly... save that money for a 5090, because game optimisation is so bad a 4090 can't do 60 fps with RT off.
So, Intel is in the weeds at least until they figure out the scalable chiplet format that they tried to ridicule AMD for when Ryzen first launched. The real worry is AMD entering their own Sky Lake phase over the next few years - pumping out minor incremental updates because they have no competition. Yes, I know they were bascially stuck on the same node for an eon, but you get my drift.
People need to stop giving UB air, so we can watch it wither and die. The day that PoS doesn't top the search results for any comparison I want to run will be a sweet day indeed.
Even if no one in the space talks about them they'll still top it. As much as the guy running it is an absolute bozo. From a technical and SEO perspective it's really impressive.
