Got this motherboard from Scan on the 29th Nov and put it in the cupboard as there was no need for me to look or touch it yet as I have no cpu then on the 13th Dec a guy on another forum that had the same motherboard said that there have been quite a few of them being bent so I decided to have a look at mine and low and behold it was bent badly on the io side and bent on the 24pin side. So I got in contact with scan about it they asked for pictures so I sent the above to them, I then decided to give the board a closer inspection to see if there was anymore damage to it and when I opened the cpu socket this is what greeted my eyes. Got back in contact with scan showing them the socket damage and they asked for a birdeye veiw of the board which I sent, then the next day they game me a rma number to return for inspection, they have the board now so just waiting on their reply, not holding out for much hope getting this sorted as they will more than likely blame me so they don't have to replace it. I have seen a lot of people with bent boards on reddit and other forums none as bad as mine though, in all my many years of pc building I've never had a bent motherboard. Sorry for the rant but it's so distressing as this was not cheap, if I get no luck with scan I'll try PayPal as this was how I payed for it.
I had a 1155 board come from scan with bent pins and I know for sure I didn't do it, luckily I paid for the installation insurance as it wasn't for me. I won't ever buy an Intel board from scan without the insurance now as I've had other bad experiences with them before.
Yeh I never bothered with the insurance at all, it's a good idea in a way but I thought I wouldn't need it.
I’ve had boards come from scan before with bent pins and they solely put the blame on me :/ hopefully it works out for you.
Like I've said I'll contact PayPal and start a dispute under goods unfit for purpose, if I get no luck with scan.
Scan got back to me tryed to say i installed the board and said there was wear on mounts and there is corrosion on the back, how the hell did that get there. They offered to send it back to get repaired but could not say if it would be so im starting a paypal dispute. These are scans pictures
Nothing surprises me with scam, scan… anymore, if you do get your money back they’ll just pass it along to the next customer in line and retry the same tactic.
I'm just getting a bad gateway error when I try to embiggen that but if they're talking about the brown stain under the pins, that ain't corrosion - that's flux residue that the factory didn't bother to clean off after soldering. Nothing to do with installation.
I rarely buy from them now after 3 issues. I don't believe the adage the customer is always right but sometimes you have to bite the bullet and do what's right or you will lose a customer, I used to solely buy from them and a little from ebuyer but no more.
Had similar issues with Scan a long time ago. I bought a Sapphire AMD board. I phoned before hand and asked if they could make sure the bios was the latest one. They said they would. The board arrived and as soon as I picked it up the VRM heatsink fell off. I put it back on and installed my CPU. On the box it clearly stated "Supports Phenom CPUs". It did not. This was why I contacted them first. I got absolutely nothing out of it. They sent a courier to collect it (can't remember which one but they are not around any more) and when they got it back, quelle surprise, they said "Works fine" and proceeded to remove £7 from my debit card for return shipping and a 15% restocking fee. Which was also about £8. £15 down I vowed never to use them again. I broke that vow twice. Once when they had a 7990 with a free £150 PSU for something daft like £399. I got that via Ebay using Paypal, and once about a year ago when I wanted a case and PSU. Other than that? the many thousands of pounds I have spent over the years have not been with them. Their policies suck, and no matter how experienced you are they are always more so when it comes to money, thus they always lay the blame squarely on you no matter what, it's always your fault, and they always make out like a bandit leaving you the one being screwed. This put me in a hard position when Mark Proudfoot was A. Still alive and B. Still the owner of OCUK. As soon as Caseking took over? I have ordered 99% of my stuff through them. Mostly because every time I have had an issue all I needed to do was post in the secret customer only forum on their forums, explain the issues and BANG, sorted. Every.single.time. Without fail. I don't like doing phone calls because I have an extremely short temper and don't like the face to face aspect of it. Especially when they F you. So for me to be able to resolve it quietly and passively? perfect. Most of the time when I buy from OCUK I will do so because what I want is the cheapest. However, I have indeed paid more in the past because their customer service, IMO, is completely unrivalled. I also get the free shipping with them, and it's not an Indian giver free shipping either when you spend over a certain amount.
They basically said in a email they can't prove where the damage was done and didn't blame me directly I've started a dispute with PayPal and sent them all the information.
So they don't care where the damage was done and can't prove it but it's still your fault. Yup, that sounds just like scam to me.
Aye I'll send the emails to PayPal tomorrow. RMA: ITEM: LN129374 ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 APEX Good afternoon, With regards to the above RMA, the motherboard has been passed to myself following the initial inspection of the goods. In addition to the bent pins and the bent PCB, the motherboard also has signs of corrosion/burning on the underside. There is also the slightest wear to some of the screw-holes which would suggest the goods have been installed. The picture we have taken showing the issue can be found using the below l We do have an insurance policy in place for accidental installation damage, which is what this kind of damage would be classed as. To see more on this policy please see the following link; https://www.scan.co.uk/info/scanprotect Due to the amount of time taken to report damage to the goods, we unfortunately cannot accept them for a replacement. Reporting damage out of time leaves us with no way of confirming if the goods were already damaged prior to delivery to you. Normally this kind of damage would result in the motherboard being rejected and returned to you. However, we can certainly send it to the manufacturer for them to attempt a repair for you or confirm if they will accept it back under warranty. Thing is they say they have insurance in place for this. Cool. So if you buy anything at all from them the ball is solely in your court and if you don't pay an extra % on top of their already at the max prices (and thus a much higher price overall) then absolutely no matter what you are screwed with no consumer rights whatsoever. This is exactly why, since my issue in 2009 I have avoided spending the at least £15k I have spent on tech and pc products elsewhere. They must think people are thick or something. Oh and it totally didn't go unnoticed, back when they charged you about 30p a minute to call them, that they were doing that dirty stuff either. I'm amazed they have any customers left, given the absolutely awful way they treat them. Mate of mine on a non PC related forum once spent over 3 grand with them on a liquid cooled pc (a real one, like) and when it arrived dry in a very soggy box they mucked him around for weeks. Which also reminded me that just like Ebuyer whether you spend three grand or 50p they treat you with the same amount of contempt. Amazing.
I agree with Mr H here, that looks like flux residue and not "corrosion". If other people are getting similar issues with different retailers then it could be that Asus are incorrectly sending out RMA boards to retailers/distributors as certified refurbs or new boards. Whether it's Scan or Asus at fault, it's almost certainly a dumb clerical error rather than actively malicious. Either way it's definitely time for a PayPal dispute.
Yup. Just plain dirty. Talk about picking the peanuts out of poo. IDK if you've cranked your OCUK profile up via the forums by posting and activating free shipping but it's the best thing I ever did, GPU section idiots and all
