Yeah, Unified theme would be good... I'd go for a transparent background, and the same font as bit uses (BTW, what font does Bit use?)...
I don't quite get what they are for? /me looks at SA forums, burns eyes at uglyness. Will we have an option to turn them off please k, thx? (and also please ensure what ever you do that you keep the "bit v4 (Retro)" colour scheme too)
So you can tell with a glance what a thread is about? The SA forums look fine and are incredibly easy to use in that respect.
Not forgetting the ability to filter by topic (better than visiting an alternate forum as you have to do now)
+1. Be careful guys, the forum is pretty good as it is. Of course it can be better, but just make sure you don't fix what isn't broken. AH
Even if it can't be turned off, an extra 70px of unobstrusive images is hardly going to put you off. I don't even notice them particularly on SA anymore.
animated icon tags on each forum? next you'll be turning images on in sigs! filter by topic sounds great, but please have a text-only tagging option, i like the clean look of the forums.
Agreed insofar as strictly speaking this thread is discussing your request for people to make you some tag images. However, going by the average post count of the posters in this thread I think we could let ourselves be sidetracked a little bit into a discussion of your plans for the forums rather than doing it in the public eye of the feedback forum. I don't think I'm overstepping the mark when I say that the long-time members make the community what it is here. There are a huge number of committed members who post in and view the forums regularly - I would consider myself one of those people, and we have a big part to play in the atmosphere of the place. With that in mind, here's my frank and honest opinion (and perhaps others will agree with me): the. forums. are. fine. exactly. as. they. are. If you want to change them, go ahead. But I've got to say it worries me that you seem to be planning to introduce ANIMATED tags into the forums - I could have to view possibly 50-odd copies of the same ANIMATED image!? On one page?!? That is re-goddamn-diculous. I guess the bottom line of what I'm saying is that I don't think the changes you appear to be planning will have a real positive effect (granted you guys haven't officially explained exactly what you're planning), and some of them will definitely have a real negative effect (getting rid of v4 retro, making me press escape every time I load a page), certainly on the long term users, who - just to re-iterate - make this place what it is. Please, please, make these changes optional. One last thing: I really like posting here. I love this place so I honestly hope I eat my words. I'm not trying to be malicious or belittle what you guys are doing, just trying to raise some things that concern me. Mike.
good to hear, RTT. i trust you guys to do a good job on the redesign, the last one was a definite improvement.
well since I'm so very bored and have nothing to do for the next 14 days I suppose I could make a load of these icons Also as said I think we should have one theme for all the the images, that will always look cleaner and more professional IMO. -Fr4nk *Reinstalls PS CS2 to find Cs3 is broken
In regards to a common theme: Even if one isn't posted by staff, if we all post our images here, we can use each others ideas as inspiration thus moving towards a common theme on our own. Bindi - perhaps you can start taking images as we add them and copy them into your first post??? That might help give people the idea and help towards the common theme thing. Another thing - for many people it doesn't need to be said, but I think you should add a reminder to be mindful of copyrights... And, as much as I hate windows, I must say the windows image posted looks great Jamie.
I was thinking something like a 1px stroke in the bit-tech purple, due to the small image size, the use of text seems so I using images from bit reviews I made one for hardware, I'll be working on these tommorrow but I'll leave you with this: Edit: after looking at it in the post 1px stroke seems very small... -Fr4nk
