For those that don't know, NASA are going to blow the moon up on Friday/Saturday. No, it's not some kind of evil masterplan so that NASA can rule the world, they're trying to see whether the moon really does have water. The project is call Lcross (Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite), and the plan is to crash two small space probes into the Moon's surface to see what debris is created. The first probe will hit at 11:31:19 UTC (00:31 BST, Saturday morning). The second probe will fly through the plume created by the first probe, sending back data as to its composition, and will impact at 11:35:45 UTC (00:35 BST). If weather conditions are right, we may be able to see it from the UK - the plume should be visible in binoculars or a telescope with 10x magnification or more. The impact site is the Cabeus crater, located at the extreme south pole of the moon. More details, including where on the moon to look, are on NASA's website.
I see this as a precursor test to see what effects weapons have while being used on the moons surface. Thank you NASA for bringing us one step closer to a genuine Unreal Tournament
That was the first option, but it turns out that Darth Stewie put up some plywood over the port. -monkey
British Summer Time (GMT +1,) what we're using at the moment. On October 25th, clocks go back an hour to GMT and we get an extra hour in bed.
Think of all the contractors that died in the blast!! For truly depressing reading, head on over to this MSNBC Newsvine page, then take a look at the comments. ZOMG!!!!111one........teh bomb is gonna knock the moon off its orbit!!!!!! someone think of the children!!!!!! Sometimes I truly feel that the human species is on the way out, and that mosquitoes are set to take over as Earth's dominant resident. -monkey
