I have put this under the general tab as I would like to know all opinions related to this game. I have recently downloaded the demo to the PS3 and it was Fab in one player and online modes. Who intends getting this game here ?
I'm not getting it as its Need for Speed in a different guise. It's just plain dull and unimaginative imo and I really don't think the open city format works well for it at all. But hey, that's just me.
I agree with BioSniper. The open city format thing is just a waste of time. I thought the demo sucked. I'd rather see it go back to it's roots and remember what made 2 and 3 so much fun. 4 was pretty good too, but never as much fun as 3.
Well I must say when I first played it I thought it was shite ! But I gave it a second chance (I'm really glad I did now) and tried the online features against 3 other people and I found myself really enjoying it plus I enjoyed exploring the part of the city open in the demo. The section of the city open for the demo is huge in real terms and I was suprised to see that thats just a fraction of the map available from the full game. With all the challenges available etc I do see this as a Value for Money game something I cant say about the majority of games available today.
I absolutely cannot play this on a PS3. We got it in, I tried it and it's the most uncomfortable experience - I was even tempted to buy a PS3 before I re-remembered what the controller was like. I'm not sure I'd want to play it - there are fun parts but as soon as Joe said "you have to go to the OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP to get to a Junk Yard and change car" I just couldn't give a ****. That's work, not fun.
Yea, the controller is really bad. I can't believe they slope away from you when pressed down. Possibly the worst ergonomics ever conceived. Perhaps I will mod mine
I wanna mod the PS3 controller into an xbox 360 controller, then it would be comfortable. Back on the topic of Burnout. I wont be getting it - still have loads of Forza 2 to unlock and play.
I requested it for rental. Want to make use of my subscription instead of buying it. Hopefully it'll come soon.... looking forward to messing around in the whole city. Enjoyed the demo a fair bit.
I have to agree with the controller comments they are very uncomfortable, Modding seems a good idea let me know what you do Will. As to the game I'm really enjoying it unlocked a ton of cars already some of which look and drive so nicely, as to drivng to the other side of the map for your cars well that just happens once as there are at least another 5 junkyards to find the map 3 of which I have already found. I suggest you guys play the game for a bit then comment I really think your being a little harsh towards it.
Ok, After playing all day with a ****ing horrible hangover here are my thoughts: (on the game, not the hangover) (obviously) Graphics: This is a very very pretty game with a frame rate that never dips below 60. The cars look excellent even when hitting a wall at 100mp as they crumple up like a cardboard box. The general presentation of everything is top notch. Nothing at all to complain about (except perhaps one thing... This is just me being picky I suppose, but most crashes involve hitting something very fast head on and after a while the car squishing and then rocking on it's crumpled body does become a bit samey. An explosion, or a bit more debris or the car breaking into parts every so often would do nicely to add some variation) Audio: Absolutely brilliant! I've got my PS3 plugged in via optical out to my surround sound and it's like I'm sitting inside the car on a seat 4 meters behind and 2 meters above the car. When I'm driving I can hear the other cars smashing into each other behind me. It is very very good. The AI: I'm not sure about this one... In one sense, the other cars are very very clever. If they want you out of the way, they will try and force you into oncoming traffic, walls and other drivers and they will do so while trying their best not to sacrifice themselves in the process. It's awesome to watch your car become sandwiched between two pursuers and have them force you into a central reservation, while they pull away at the last second. So their behaviour is great, but I'm a bit suspicious of the way they move around.. It reminds me of Ridge Racer. Like the cars are on rails or something. That said, the movement just aids the game in making everything seem as manic as possible. While I may wonder how the hell a car drove round a hairpin at 150mph while not quite facing the correct direction when there are 5 of them jostling for position and I'm trying to get past without getting obliterated, it does make it great fun, and hilarious to watch. The gameplay: I did actually write lots and lots for this but then I realised I was waffling, so I've deleted it and done bullet points: Good: Not being able to restart* All the events are completely manic and awesome fun Taking a short cut you found earlier while peeing around that wins you a race you thought you'd lost by taking a wrong turn right at the beginning Being able to explore everything from the very start Very good on-line integration The city is so brilliantly detailed and full of places to explore Going really really fast and lucking your way through a big pile of cars pretending that you meant to do that triple barrel role. Crashing in that cool cartwheel fashion Takedown mode is awesome! Marked man is genuinely tense and gives you a great sense of desperation and then relief when you get to the finish line in one piece. Mugshots with people who are obviously diving out the way of the camera Bad: Not being able to restart** A slight feeling that you've done this race before because of the open ended nature of each event Apart from the licences and the cars there is a complete lack of any sense of progression through the game, and each time you get a new license the races you've already done are forgotten! WHY??? Because of the previous point, you feel quite lost sometimes. Like I don't quite know what to do next. Having to go to a junk yard to change cars is a pain. Planning ahead isn't something I'm used to in racing games. Not being able to give up without going into showtime mode. Sometimes I just want to give up and do another event without having to crash myself around the city (however much fun that is ) Not having the option to change the way the minimap works. (I like the minimap to rotate round the player rather than the player rotate on the map) DJ ****ING ATOMIKA! I hate thee! (Can't wait for Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw to give his opinion on the fat little American turd ) Don't get put of though by the bad outnumbering the good. The good actually far outweigh the bad in terms of importance to the overall fun factor. Aside from a few niggles this game gets an 8/10 from me. *Who wants to do the same event over and over again? Once you've gotten over the initial kick to the system you'll prefer it to the constant repetitiveness of games like DIRT when you make a mistake right at the end and have to start over **While not being able to restart is great overall, when I want to do a Burning Route which requires a specific car having to drive back to the start each failed attempt is a pain in the bum!
