Don't see the point in a few HDDs in a budget build, also I'd expect a Dual Core processor and maybe an 8600GT and stuff like that. I would try and raise the budget though as if you buy cheap, you buy twice.
here's my suggestion, done at my favorite shop. i don't know if your prices over there are similar or not, so it may not be any help. athlon X2 7750 dual core cpu at 2.7GHz: $90 ECS A780GM motherboard with integrated gfx: $75 2GB corsair xms2 ram: $30 any brand 250GB hard drive: $50 Corsair 400CX power supply: $40 antec 300: $50 =$ 340CDN, which google translates to £186
A full system with OS keyboard and mouse, at low price PC can't be achieved easily for custom build, as my experience suggest. I recommend to go with Dell or similar companies. Included junk software reduces the system price, and usually build using old hardware that the company wants to clear out.. so sometimes they even sell it at a loss (to not have a total loss). I don't know if this works with Dell Home, but when I ordered my laptop from Dell Small Buisness, I simply ask for a price, and they gave me insane price all in one shot (350$ off, bunch of free upgrades (160GB over 80GB, DVD burner, Intel wireless N 5100 (over their own Dell branded Broadcom wireless G) and backlit keyboard). But that was a close to 2k laptop. :/ So I don't know... but you can try OR perhaps even better, look on the net for Dell coupons. You should find a 30% off easily.
I was thinking around 2 harddrives, maybe even one. That sounds amazing! What shop is it, do they ship to the UK. I already have an OS, Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, Speakers - I don't really want to buy a pre-build pc as i want this to be my own thing; I alreadu have a dell well 2
ncix.com, and no they do not ship to the UK. you will be able to find all the parts in the UK though, just shop around with your favourite price comparison engine. 780G will run counterstrike no problems. 9600GT would be a nice inclusion, but for keeping it under £200 it's not the best use of the budget. best to keep that as a future upgrade when you can afford it.
http://www.scan.co.uk/ http://www.ebuyer.co.uk/ http://www.tekheads.co.uk/ You won't find prices as cheap as the US, but these are probably the best UK shops that you'll find.
There's also Novatech, who are brilliantly cheap, and Amazon that have a few good deals on sometimes... and there's the obvious evilbay as well To be honest, an E5200, Asus P5QPL-VM (cheap, integrated graphics, 4 RAM slots for expandability), and 2gb RAM should cover it (your RAM will fit) For graphics I'd stick with onboard... if you really want budget card go ATI HD4830, should run flash games with ease I suppose For PSU/Case, I'd go Novatech. I know that's not recommended, but it's cheap, it works, and you get some pretty cheap combos. HDD? You won't need much more than 500Gb, ever (Unless you start gaming or DVD ripping... then you might, but you can add more HDDs at a later stage). DVD Drive? go ebay. Your stock intel cooler will do for now, the above is an amazingly budget PC... shouldn't cost more than £200 to build (after getting cables etc) or £250 with the 4830
Sharn Yeah, i was looking around and i've read alot about the E5200 and for £57 it seems a good buy and a chance for my first over clock I saw that board for £70ish, could it be picked up for £50? Graphics; All i'd be playing is Counterstrike as of yet nothing Major Case- Antec 300 ? PSU -Unsure going to check out novatech Hdd - £320gb SATA2? Do i need a SATA DVD drive? or will my IDE one do?
The IDE one should be fine, if you're really keen on the Antec then go for it... but I have no ideas about good/bad PSU's (Follow bit-tech's buyers guide) If it's only CS: S you should be alright with the onboard graphics... if not you can always upgrade later.
CASE £60 - Coolermaster Elite 330 Black Case With CM eXtreme Power 460W PSU PSU £0 - Included with case. CPU £56 - Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 HD £38 ** OP's original choice ** RAM £22 - Corsair 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 MB £53 - Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L GPU £75 - 4830 OR wait 1 month for new RV740 40nm Fans £10 - Xilence Red Wing 120mm Quiet Fan Cooler £14 - Akasa 965, only required if you intend to overclock. TOTAL £328 Caveat - What RAM do you currently have? If you wait 1 month until the RV740 is released (Ati's new 40nm graphics card), you will have a low power-consumption system, that will be capable of 1920 x 1200 resolution in many games, it destroys integrated graphics The Coolermaster case is excellent value, and with the 2 additional (quiet) case fans, provide great cooling for your build spec. I used www.ebuyer.com, they also offer free delivery for orders over £50, all those pennies count!
+1 at Turbotab. That's a good system and not too expensive. And you could save a tenner skipping the Xilence fan (I have one, I think it's crap compared to the other fans) as that case probably has enough airflow anyway
What was the problem with the fan, I used a similar one in a friend's build, and it was quite quiet. I've just ordered one for a new build, if it's noisy, maybe I should cancel the order? The Coolermaster case is good, but only has 1 fan as standard, another 1 or 2 fans help ensure much better airflow.
what pimonserry said. there's nothing particularly wrong with the xilence fan, but if you really need a fan you might as well get a scythe or yate-loon for $3. and the case comes with fans, you don't really need to buy any, especially for a setup as low-powered as the one being discussed here.
This looks like a winner to me; http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129592 Quad-core ready, [Core 2 duo =me] 8gig max with 4 slots onboard vga sound the works. for £44!
