Oops, I keep forgetting to take piccies! I have made the router mounts today, and have the Makita router mounted. I had a test run with a borrowed transformer and that thing is sooo quiet! Just waiting for my dad to drop off a big yellow box 'o lurv so I can run it properly. Piccies tomorrow. Lupine, nice link, that spindle must be packing some major HP to cope with that speed of cut! Phat, hmm, sounds interesting!
Well guys, time for a quick update! I must learn never to buy an rc nitro car before my projects are completed!! I have taken delivery of the Makita RD1101 router, and wow, what a machine. Quiet as a hairdryer, Nice! Oh yeah, here's the socket for the power, coz I forgot it before! Fortunately I was able to take this one off of the d-handle assembly of the router, which meant I did not have to take the router appart to stick on a different plug/lead. Yep, that thing's getting waay dusty! I cut the slots in the marine-ply sub table today which will form the base of a T-slot table. And more dust: You can just make out different coloured slots. I changed the design half way through cutting, to give me fewer slots, so only half of them are cut to full depth. Wish I'd made my mind up before cutting them all, but nevermind! Anyhow, a quick clean up, and a nice coat of polyurethane varnish should finnish that off until tomorrow. Oh damn, I knew I forgot something! Before I secured the plywood down, I ran some 1/4" thick angle ali across the bed for added support. Hopefully it should stop the ply from dipping over time. Hehe, anyone reading cnczone will see I just copied/pasted this post! I'm gettin' lazy!
What are those spiral grooves around the router, and why don't they show up in the pic with the aluminium angle bars across the chassis? Otherwise, looking very nice.
My guess would be that the spiral groove are part of the original bit depth adjustment. As in when the router was attached to the base that comes with it from the store.. Awesome cnc Kong!!!
Yep, the_Sub is right. They are part of the depth adjustment on the US style fixed base routers. You don't see them in the other photo, coz it's a different router! Look back to when I first cut the router mounts using that old red router...you'll see the old B&Q router mounted, and is that one which has no spiral grooves unlike my new Makita Quick update - I have screwed down the aluminium table top today, and began cutting grooves, but snapped my last 3mm cutter It's ok though, I ordered more today so they should be here tomorrow!

Hehe, I have been busy this week, I have got the ali top on, and havbe run the oruter over it a couple of times. Still got the slots to cut out yet though! So many things, so little time!

Can't think of a better project for my first post. Excellent Work May have some work for it when it is finally finished. Tempt to try myself, but no space for sucha beast
Any more progress on this Kong? Or have you been too distracted playing with the aforementioned nitro powered R/C car?
