I am not sure whether this is a problem as such but it is something that is worrying me a little.
When I do certain thing, like scrolling down the "post your desktop" thread or scrolling through tabs quickly and sometimes flash stuff (as in games) my computer squeaks. It also happens when my computer is generating thumbnails in a folder and scrolling up and down a folder. I have had a quick play with Orthos and this did generate the higher note of squeak- there are two different notes.

I have no idea where it is coming from, performance is fine in games and it rarely squeaks when I am not doing something. My though was that it could be something to do with the power regulation on the motherboard, when the CPU suddenly has to do something the power draw spikes and it squeaks. Would that make sense, is there anything I can do about it and do you think I should be worried? It does seem to carry on throughout whatever it is that I am doing, then stop once it is finished.

Temperatures are fine for the CPU.

edit: specs in sig, Hyper Type M 580W non modular PSU, Abit IP35 Pro motherboard

I did have such issue but me it was all the time.. and after sticking my ear at everything, I discovered it was my PSU Fan (I had an Antec TruePower), when I called Antec they said it's not covered by the warranty. And that was the last day I touched Antec PSU's. However, they still make great cases.

I also had, on the same system, my motherboard made a high-pitch noise, which was disappearing if I used a heavier (more plastic) Ethernet cable. It basically ended up being that the cable was damping the sound produced by the motherboard. Soon after the nvidia Ethernet card broke.. the 3Com still worked. It was under warranty and got it RMA.
It took ASUS a month and half to get it fixed, multiple calls, and I got a ULTRA dusty refurbished motherboard. To cheap to remove the dust. The dust was soo high the compressed air-can was unable to remove the compacted dust inside the slots. They probably gave me a motherboard from their own system which worked and updated the BIOS. After seeing 3 friends with similar issues on much newer motherboards (not even a year old), and having the ASUS techSupport/RMA not having a 1-800 number and making you wait for HOURS! I put ASUS motherboard on my black list. The nice things about ASUS is that each hardware type are different department... so the sound card section is different from the motherboard and same for the notebook. Anyway, in Canada, ASUS Motherboard section is just plain abysmal. For a top-high-end motherboard, you expect a better service and boards than a motherboard that you can get for 20$... but you don't. ASUS motherboards are in my blacklist.

LOL^ I think there is a mouse stuck in my chair too :)

Thanks for your help guys, I guess that as nothing has actually gone bang yet I can't RMA it (Abit have gone bust too which doesn't help!). It is quite annoying that it does have something like that wrong with it, but there is no use worrying about it.

edit: just had a look inside and my case has cobwebs inside it! not too much dust but it could do with a spring clean.

my GTX280 squeeks like a bitch underload, its just some caps making noise. There is one guy who used nail varnish to coat the bad caps, thinking it would repair it, all it dose it insulate against the sound, its like puting a band aid on a served leg, its still gushing blood!

I am waiting for my GTX280 to fail so i know it will RMA easily, rather than sending it back and saying err it dose squeek, honest!
