What about the extra fuel burned to generate the electricity need to enable file sharing? :B

What about the Extra Fuel burned to make Disks and Print the Labels and Make the Boxes. Then move them from the factory to stores. etc....

It use 100X fuel than file sharing ;) And you can save your money too :D hehehehe

    Awesome point buddy.

This would be less than the amount of energy taken to produce the disk let alone the whole kit and kaboodle, then factor in the transport of the disk from factory to wholesaler, then to retailer, then add the electricity used by the wholesaler and the retailer (lights, heating/cooling, their computer system, coffee machine etc) and it would be a lot more than your home PC would use to download the same data.

Oh, no doubt, for a single house hold there's no contest.

But when you consider that most popular things have quite a few peers, EG, some of the more popular DVD rips have 2000+ peers, that's 2000 households at least. Not including the server that tracks the torrent (Although that's not essential).

Not saying they're all like that - But the more popular 'new' ones are not far off :D

That doesn't matter, it just means that 2000 people have downloaded (or will have once they all finish downloading it) the data and each has used less resources than if they had bought it in the shops.

Even so - There is still quite a high cost on the energy front. Exchanges require power, say there's 900 households (Assuming there are more than two people in some houses), they won't all be on the same exchange, so say something like 200 exchanges, then somewhere there's a server that's tracking the torrent (Or is likely to be), which is likely to be in a server farm.

Admittedly, they'd be doing that anyway, but a mail order hard copy is in the same boat - Posties delivery daily anyway, so they're not using any more or any less fuel for a DVD or CD for you.

I'm not trying to say that there are more fuel costs involved in downloading - Just that there are quite a few that're not always considered.

I didn't think it was funny. Moot and childish logic.
Am I the only one who doesn't think they are high enough? Modern day cars using modern day gasoline still costs the same as it did 15 years ago.

    :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

    Another argument for piracy:

The less money celebrities make, the less crazy messed up stuff they will do, which will also reduce the pollution of the minds of so many influencial fans.

It's like a big happy snowball, that just gets happier, softer & fluffier as it rolls along!

so you're saying that modern low-consumption cars burn better quality fuel more efficiently than old gas guzzlers were burning (lower?) quality fuel back in the days? Therefore, money wise, it costs about the same in the end for the consumer ?

Well in the UK, we pay roughly 300% of what you pay in the US, and the prices have gone up 50% in the last couple of years...
