I have a pc right now and these are my specs: As you can tell, I REALLY need to upgrade my pc lol So I was wondering, will the 2100T be overclockable to at least the standard clock of the other Sandy Bridge cpus? I'll be buying a Thermaltake Frio so I will have no problem temperature-wise.
You will need a full new computer. You will need DDR3 memory, motherboard, possibly GPU, PSU, DVD burner, and might as well get a new case. Are you a student?
What he said. In the situation of trying to just upgrade the CPU, you would not be able to as you need at least an Intel motherboard AND have one that fits the socket of the i3 which would be LGA 1155. AMD and Intel don't mix. Like goodBytes asked, are you a student. If you only need a computer for school and wanted to build it yourself, it would probably only cost you a few hundred bucks.
The 2100T has absolutely zero overclocking available on it. There's not even Turbo Boost. The minimum you'll have to aim for is the twice as expensive 2500K. Your best bet is trying to find an i3-540 or G6950/6960 + P55/H55 board before they are all gone. Failing that, see what happens when AM3+ launches maybe, depends how long you want to wait. What's your budget? What do you use your PC for?
Are you looking for low power or speed? It is a great chip if you need something low power, if you want speed, you are better off spending a bit more money and getting one of the quad core parts, like a i5-2400 even.
