I don't think there are any that have green leds out of the box. I think the ZM MFC-1 Plus would go really well with the Obsidian front panel. You can probably swap out the LEDs on it.
For black aluminium there's the Zalman 6-channel fan controller, very nice, although the LEDs are blue/red, nothing some modding couldn't fix I'm sure.
this sounds like the best option to me as well just desolder and add the green 3mm or 5mm LEDs and make it a custom for your rig
I'll see if I can find out the LED sizes from Zalman, didn't see them specified anywhere. I can pick some LED's up from PEATS or Maplin in Dublin some time. The LED pairs that I ordered now are for illuminating the side panel acrylic logo (when I get around to it). Should hopefully be ordering the motherboard today as well. May seem silly to order the board and no CPU, but it'll be useful for managing the cables.
Well, I received my EVGA x58 SLI LE board. Holy crap does it look gorgeous. There is one small flaw though.... The NB heatsink is Badly scuffed and some of the black has been removed. None too happy with that at all. This will be aircooled to start, but I will be moving onto watercooling post-haste. Mips have a specific block for it, so I will get that when the time comes. Hopefully I will get the chance to mount the board into the case and make sure that all the cables are fine and dandy regarding length and whatnot, especially the auxilliary power cable. I am hoping that i do not need the extension cable due to the position of the connector on the board being below the MOSFETS. Fans and temp monitors arrive tomorrow, but won't get my hands on them until maybe next week
May I ask where you found that image? I have seen those "candid" shots of MDPC032 somewhere before but can't remember where. I'm starting a project soon that's going to be modelled on the sleeving in that particular build and am trying to find as many photos of it as possible. Thanks! To the OP, great thread so far! Looks like it's going to be a really nice build when it's finished and you're making a great job of the sleeving so far. Mod on!
Those pics that H2O posted are from the Daniels Murderbox Mod thread. It is in the Project logs section. The first page will eat your bandwidth, but it is worth it for the quality of the shots and the workmanship shown.
No worries fella. Here is question though to all reading. I have some cabling issues (believe it or not when you consider the size and space available in the Obsidian). The 8-pin 12v ATX connector on the EVGA board sits right below the MOSFETS. This means that it is too far down on the board for the cable to reach from behind the motherboard tray and come down from the top. It does reach the connector if I bring it up from underneath where the graphics card will sit. However, this may look ungainly and awkward. The 8-pin extension cable I have has an 8-pin terminal as well as the 4-pin terminal in series. I am just curious if I could simply 'snip' the 4-pin section off with no detrimental effects to the extension as a whole. Looping th cable from underneath the GFX might not look too bad, but I won't know until december...
Solution found from the worst source for modders: PC World. Why? Because i have no choive at all. The nearest shop to me that has ANY remotely decenz range of specialist or enthusiast bits of kit is in Dublin and 3 hour drive from me. Still, €8 for a 30cm extension cable. Sorted. Now the sleeving can be finished.
I agree with you there mate. PC World is no place for real enthusiasts. I used to work for them so I can confirm that. Their components selection is pretty bad.
Ain't that the truth! They only had 2 of these extension cables left along with upteen UV blue IDE cables. That and a few 80mm fans dotted around. I avoid them whenever possible, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Well, I got bored this morning after submitting my literature review for my PhD to my supervisor, so I drove down to Cork and back (3 hours driving) to collect my Nanoxia Fans, XSPC temperature monitors and paired green LED's. Hopefully I will have a few new pics up this weekend with the motherboard in place, fans and just maybe one or two of the temp monitors.
New stuff: I have NO idea what I am going to do with the yellow sleeving though I reckon I will leave it for another build to be honest. It would clash too much with the green and black theme. Then this stuff arrived EVGA x58 SLI LE motherboard 1366 socket. Going to be putting an i7 920 in it. The scuffing on the Northbridge is actually just some from the plastic cover, so I got it off it. I will be replacing the Northbridge and Southbridge and putting a large Water-block on them. Here are the 1200 RPM Nanoxia (x3) and a 900 RPM, some paired LED's and some temperature monitors with green LCD screens. I've just made up some templates for the front bezel optical bay covers to allow me to cut them cleanly for the temperature monitors. Simple things just measured up and drawn in Sketchup and then printed to scale. I took one of the monitors completely out of it's housing so that I can see how it will all fit it. I might have to shave a few bits off the casing and use epoxy or silicone to secure the monitors in place, but that's no big deal. Since the housings come off, I will be sanding down the front of them to make them flat, rather than the raised triangular facade they have now. Just so that they are more in keeping with the overall appearance.
Personally, I prefer the use of thumbnails as it allows for faster loading of the thread itself, but if it really does annoy people that much, I'll try to break the habit.
im honestly surprised that this thread hasnt been moved over to the project log section its turning into one nice btw grasshoppers are frog food
