I'm looking at getting the DDC pump with the EK upgrade kit for a phantek res for my build,my main worry is will this pump be reliable as the last time I had one was over 5 years ago and I've read about there being a high failure rate with these.
IMO If you fit a heatsink to the ddc it’s as reliable as a d5. I’ve been running a ddc at full speed nearly 24/7 with an ek heatsink for over a very long time and it has been absolutely fine.
I'd get one with PWM so you can set it to lower speeds when not under load. My PWM Swiftech DDCs are 7 years old and still running fine with the speeds set to around 1800rpm for the vast majority of the time. It also helps cut down noise levels as well. I don't think the non-PWM DDCs fail that often though but they do benefit from cooling as they run hot compared to a D5.
That's great new thanks for that, what will aid to the cooling as well is the res will be mounted on the front 140mm intake fans and as this res is slim there should be a fair bit of cold air going over the ddc.
I've found this ddc alpha cool laing ddc-pump 12vddc-1t pwm comes with no top and has the cooling upgrade installed, would be great as I plan to get the phantek r220 rez.
Got my non-PWM DDC second hand (>1 yr old) and had just over 9 years of use in my main rig before being retired. Still works just fine. Just had an Alphacool top fitted to it - no heatsink (It should of had one but I never got round to )
