Is there a Direct X 10 compatible for Windows XP , I have heard Direct X 10 only works for Vista.

If it exists for XP can you give me the link from where i can download it.

I'm 99% sure that there's no way to get DX10 for XP. I remember looking into it with a friend, and believe the consensus at the time was No.

yeah you cant. they were trying for a while, I dont know whatever happened to it. But if you really want dx10 (and its no big deal) get vista.

whilst we wait for goodbytes to give us a post longer than the bible on the matter of windows,
I believe that DX10 was designed to use vista's core which is totally different to that of XP, therefore DX10 isn't coded for XP, and why would microsoft re-code it only to loose the biggest selling point of vista!

Mostly all modern games still run in DX9 mode anyway, and i have found it difficult to notice much improvement over DX9 from viewing screen shots.

I am going to sit back and wait for Windows & to make a splash before i move from Xp me thinks.

Yeah, just wait for GoodBytes... :)

As burnout said, making DX10 work with XP would need re-coding the XP kernel completely. And why would anyone bother with that? If you want a re-coded kernel, get Vista, that's just what it is.

There has been lots of threads on the same subject already, did you even try the search?

Clicking 'search' doesn't boost your forum-penis, starting new topics does.

I like the OP already :)

re: DX10, it's all just subtly different fog, lighting and shading methods and much more intense anti-aliasing. And some pretty blur effects that can be done in DX9. GRID and Far Cry 2 both proved that if a game looks crap in DX9, it's because the developer is a lazy bum and wanted to push the DX10 bandwagon, not because DX10 is tangibly better.

Ofc, in three months some awesome game will come out that's DX10 dependent and looks heart-stopping, and I'll have to eat my words.

If there is even a remote desire people will try: http://alkyproject.blogspot.com/
Doesn't look like they got very far though.

If there are artificial software limitations for non dx10 machines then it may be possible to force the game to let you access setting with dx9: http://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis_13.html

However, as mentioned above, Vista (probably 64bit) really is the way to go if you like to play modern games with every single graphical feature turned on.
