Doesn't change me wanting a 360 at all as I only have about 2 DivX files but it's a good move on Sony's behalf- they're starting to make the PS3 a fairly attractive console now. I think Microsoft offering Xbox game downloads to the 360 is newsworthy too though.

This would be good to me. I have a lot of DIVX files from home videos and music videos recorded off the TV. I have been trying for ages to convert them to WMA to play through my 360 using a external hard drive where they are all stored.

What other video codecs does the PS3 support??? I want the 60gb model for the card reader and video playback and also tv recording when the dual tunner comes out next year . I dont think ill be able to afford it this xmas and worried it will have been discontinued by April when I should be able to purchase one.

Oh well. divx is a big plus

I think somebody's getting a little jealous that their console isn't going to be the only one that supports it...seriously cjoyce...MS hasn't gotten through the negotiations so they can't officially announce anything until they go through....and considering Sony beat MS to it doesn't actually equate to them "looking like they're doing something as well"....that statement should actually be geared at MS tbh....o well not worth arguing but had to comment on the immature post....

I must say though that I'm happy to see DivX support because all of my Family Guy, American Dad and Robot Chicken episodes have been converted to DivX so now I can put them on a single dual-layer DVD or two and finally watch them over at my friend's house....

Xvid is just open source DivX - anything encoded using Xvid will run using the DivX codec to decode it.

    Alas for your naivety.
