Yeah, I'm not sure what their options would have been if the dishwasher was already in place, looking at it. Of course, if it wasn't in place, they may even have measured where the units were going to come out to and floored up to that point. No idea with this house.
I think so. All screws seem to be out and feet wound in - you can see them sticking out the top of the frame in my photos below. I assume your picture is saying either do 6 or 8, my unit has number 8. It also has 7 but we seem to have removed that completely (came home the other night and one of my mates was having a crack at it for us :hehe:).

Took these pics just now - excuse the grot... slightly embarrassing to post on a forum but we inherited that as well!

:hehe: I did knock on his kennel a couple of times recently about something else, but I think he's lost interest now he's got his new pool table.

Let me try this as well (looks like it might have worked from the preview):

You could always just board up where the dishwasher is (leave in situ), call the Mrs in, point at the sink and inform her that you're so niiiiice, you've realised she needs a new "hobby" like hand washing dishes ... therapeutic it is I say, therapeutic.

I could actually put the sink inside it to make use of the space, then use the current sink cavity to pile up dishes achievable objectives.
Or turn it into an arcade machine cave as a hobby area for the rest of us? A performance cabinet in which the kids can entertain us at meal times?
    Yeah, quite. Angle grinder then?

I'm still voting for violence. It looks like you can fit a prybar under the bottom too.

:hehe: Sometimes it really is the best way!

I can get a bar under it, you're right, but any upwards distance still only gets it just onto the odd-edged left-hand lip of the flooring by micrometres. I'll probably then scratch it to bits on the way out (can't even get tissue paper in the gap, let alone an old curtain or anything to slide it out on :sigh:).

Can you rip the insulating rug off the top? That will give a bit more space.
It's going to be coming out an an angle, so only that lip of the flooring should be mangled. -Oh sh*t, you've got me rhyming.
If you have a formica counter, then you have to watch out there because they tend to leave a lip that overhangs the support material. I totally haven't had to make a splice repair of one of those. Nope! Not me! :worried:

Ha! Good to learn from experience... Including me learning from yours then!

As far as I can tell, everything is off the top of it. I'll grab another photo to show. Haven't been able to get to cut it today, so there is a stay of execution for it until Tuesday, in case there is an alternative.

Re: dishwasher. You got an ocsillating tool? Few metal/plastic cutting blades. Take your time, think of all the shite you’ve had to endure this last week/month/year. And every bit you toss away, you attribute that day/week/month to it.

    Very cleansing destructive behaviour.

I've got the Dremel and a borrowed PowerCraft AG900 (which is possibly a rating of "Aggravation level") grinder - and am still yet to get to the "D" in DIY with regard to this particular job. However, Christmas approaches and the need for both automated cleansing of many, many dishes and kitchen worktop space to prepare mess to go in many, many dishes are pressing.

Can I just fit a saw blade to the grinder and hack away or do they have to have a special setting? I'm sure it will be both easier and harder-hitting than the Dremel. I think it's some sort of Lidl/Aldi special but I'll see if I can dig out more info on it because this sounds like a cathartic suggestion.

Slightly nervous about plumbing the new one in now as well though (assuming it's even been measured correctly and fits under the worktop in the first place) and using it in anger over the busy period...

EDIT: Seems they are indeed different tools, but still cheaper than getting someone in and waiting for them, plus we'll have a new tool for collective use at the end of it. Screwfix have some apparently cheap(ish) deals on but I've only ever heard of Makita there. Any others stand out? Plus Black Friday coming up.

    No, nope, do not do.
You can get them to fit, but it gets very very unhealthy if / when it goes wrong.

I'd go in with the grinder, grab a pack of these (you'll probably manage the job with just one), leave the front corners so it doesn't collapse and cut through the side, in a couple of stripes. Likely you'll struggle to reach the back corners, for those I'd batter it with a hammer and chisel, a screwdriver might even do. It'll be a bit of a fight but that was always gonna be the case.

If you don't have ear defenders or pugs, get some. Angle grinders are bad at the best of times but with your head inside a big metal drum it will be awful.

    Assuming you don't mean:
    upload_2023-11-1_9-51-54.png

then I'd say get ear defenders and plugs. Like you say, noisy tool in a big metal drum? Better safe 'n sorry.

Right. It's early, I'm cross and miserable, but it's nearly Christmas, the day has potential and the Amazon sale is still on (for when I've finished this horrible job) so I'm going to control what I can and take action.

Screwfix opens soon (although admittedly I won't be there as soon as the key turns in the lock) so I'm going to get some of those grown-up ear defenders that make you look like a building site DJ (or a commuter with no idea about musical fidelity). After looking at the Screwfix website, my question is - once you have a dB rating in mind, is the difference in price tiering then only to do with comfort, or do you get rubbish ones that don't actually work as they should because they're either too cheap or over-specced and lying to you?

I see these unknown-to-me branded ones and these known ones and whilst I don't want to take a chance on my hearing, I don't want to either scrimp or spend unnecessarily. Either should do, right? Or go big with these ones that I've also never heard of but have a bigger number. And I'll double up with some Bluetooth earbuds playing techno inside them just to get that full industrial rave feel from back in the day. Or some of these.

EDIT: It's early. Brain wasn't working (which doesn't bode well for using power tools) and I didn't think people reviewed ear defenders as I was blinded by dB ratings on the search page. Have now removed the third first lot based on rubbish feedback.
EDIT EDIT: JFC. Ignore the above edit. Re-added the third lot into the mix. Seems like none of them are particularly glowing. They do have some Xbox ones I've just noticed, but I think I'll get these if they're in stock. If not, then square one on the above.
