As a fan of spending a night or two out in the open among good company, I actually always bring a spare pair of shoelaces in my backpack (at least after that one time when I had to improvise...). In the last few years, I actually developed a habit of buying another pair of laces whenever I get a new pair of sneakers. I'm pretty sure I can fill up a small drawer just with my spare off white shoelaces nowadays... I can't be alone in this, lol
I've got loads of different multicoloured ones I use in my trainers and motorcycle shoes. Kalsi Cords does great colours.
Can't say I've ever managed to lose my laces and, the kind of shoes I buy come with strong, durable laces that don't break. When I send my Altberg walking boots back to the factory, for resoling, they come back with new laces.
I will occasionally buy different coloured laces for shoes or trainers, if the ones they come with aren't quite right. I have a good of boots that I've had for years that have lasted well, but the eyelets have either not been punched in properly or are just crap, and chew through laces like it's going out of fashion, so they've been replaced more frequently than other footwear has while the boots themselves have remained.
Given the fairly strict dress codes in most place I frequent - no trainers, etc... I find a decent pair of loafers are a must. I've saved a small fortune on laces over the years.
So 80s. I've always liked very loud colours. I remember just after my dad died in '81 we went to Kettering to stay with family and those neon socks had just come out. I refused to take mine off for about 5 days
