Does this take place from roughly 11:30 till about 00:30? Because the entire forum died for that period, with me only getting Database Errors the whole time.
Yeah, was a bit odd. If it was an automatic backup type thing, I would have thought it would be done at a later time (GMT) since it would affect less of the users since it's primarily a UK site.
I've never seen issues around that time before so I suspect it was something else. I'd expect backup to be around 2-3AM.
The forum has always done that between ~00:15 and ~00:30 for me - it's the backup yes, but I don't know why it causes the database to become so busy that it can't process requests from members. IIRC Jamie explained it in more detail somewhere else once before - this isn't the first time the question has been asked. I have no idea why it took so long tonight, that's a first for me. The bit-tech forum is the best looked after forum I'm a member of. That's the first time I've ever seen a database error for more than a couple of minutes, and I don't see hard database errors that often, usually just a forum message saying something along the lines of "the server is too busy at the moment, please try again later". I'm a member of some forums where that sort of hard database error is a common occurrence, happening several times per week, for hours at a time [edit] Found it;
Apparently it was due to, at varying times: A swam of wasps A lack of dilithium crystals Reverse evolution An unexpected influx of chickens Problems with the flux capacitor Solar flares .... Or didn't you check gaming, modding and hardware Backup affects me between 00:20 and 00:23. It doesn't come up "database failure"
Always 00:22 for me, without fail. However tonight was the first time I've ever seen them actually down.
I once saw it say they were experiencing severe weather. But going directly to the forums showed "database failure", with some sort of SQL branch logo.
Yup. I saw the various ones, as well as "Adverse Weather Conditions" along with the aforementioned list. It is good to know that if anyone is crazy enough to fly a plane into somehow break the server; there's a backup of all our Spam!
Since yesterday, my Outlook 2010 reports an error for getting the RSS feed... although it's able to get it sometimes.
By pure fluke, I've obviously never spotted it before Bit-Tech loads as one of my home pages so I only saw it because of that.
