Hate to break your spirit; but that is a Sandy Bridge i5, it's just not a k unlocked variant.

I pushed him up a little and completed a run a 4 gigglehurtz finally!!!! But it was pretty fruitless! lol

It would have been lovely to edge past longweight and his stock i5-2500K. Maybe if I had better ram I could be there... toe to toe with a stock 2500k. :)

    That IS a sandy bridge.

What clock speed was it? You can't trust Geekbench to report it accurately.

Really struggling with OCing this thing. Been trying 5.2Ghz for the past 4hrs, and no matter how much vcore and vtt I give it, it just crashes at windows log on. As soon as I go over 1.5v vcore or 1.4v vtt, it just bleeps and restarts.
I have just taken out 4 sticks of ram, for better stability, and still no luck.

Then I dropped it back to 5.1Ghz at 1.45 vcore, and again it wont get past windows log on.
Chuck more vcore and it does the same thing...:wallbash:

Then I try 5Ghz @ 1.4v vcore, I get into windows, and then it freezes. Add more vcore and again just bleeps at me and restarts...:wallbash:

I know this chip is from a good batch, as I have seen results of upto 5.5Ghz

Going to try the latest bios update and have another go.

    Any more tips Pookeyhead?

Keep Vcore low, and use LLC to up the volts in proportion to load. I find that adds stability for me, even though it seems counter intuitive. Ensure any clock skewing is disabled, and ensure spread spectrum if disabled.

    Great guide here.

Mine's very similar. I can sail right up to 5GHz with little voltage, then BAMM!... brick wall. For example, I can do 4.8GHz with around 1.35v, but 5GHz needs around 1.4 to be fully stable. You can get away with benching at 1.36ish, but for a sustained hammering it needs nearer 1.4v

Sorry guys, I was being unclear. That last result was from the Sandy Bridge i5 at work. It's a 2400 and it's running at 3.1GHz as stated :)
When compared to my i5 750 at 4.473 mine gets a better score. Hopefully I made more sense this time lol

I'm really peed off!! I have spent hrs fine turning my OC to get it to run at 5Ghz, with no dam luck, an yet at the very last second, I thought...Lets try every bloody setting on auto and see if that works...Guess bloody what...:wallbash:...Beaten by a computer:wallbash:

I had similar with my less worthwhile overclock.

WHen I had set the htt and northbridge manually no luck. Turned on the auto and wahey 4ghz completes a bench.

That is quite a high vcore tho, oc the ram that should get you another 500 points

Looks like you have the same 5GHz wall I have then. I've not yet explored how stable my 5+GHz overclocks are because I don't have the cooling to run it for long periods of time. I could well have all the same issues you have. I can get it to bench at 5.1 without too much trouble, and I can get into the desktop at 5.4. Until I get cooling sorted these will be short lived bursts to bench. 5.4 needed 1.54V though.

I'm more than happy with my 4.7 24/7 OC though. It seems to be a real sweet spot.

    [edit]

You may get more stability if you bench with only 4 DIMMS in.

    [edit edit]

I will update the leader board soon. It will be the last time I do so for a week however, as I am going away for Xmas. I shall update it when I get back next Saturday.

Sorry mate, but that's about as much as I'm going to push it, for a day old CPU.

1.6v vcore was as stable as I could get it, and that was with my tweaked up setting, as the auto settings would not boot. So now I have beaten the computer...well...1-1:)

There's so much to tweak on these boards, I'd hang around the ROG forums and pick up some tips. I'm sure there's more to come from that chip.

What have, or will you settle on for a everyday OC?

    Boards updated BTW.

I'm happy with 4.7Ghz as a 24/7 OC as temps and vcore are very low. Don't want to be running this chip 24/7 at 5Ghz with 1.5v+ vcore.

I'm sure I can fine turn it allot more, and bring the vcore right down. But's just finding the sweet spot.:D

    I've updated to 0901 bios.

Anything worth reflashing for? Mine seems happy and stable... I may not upset it unless I need to.
